Alive by Darylsteak

On the 4th of November, 2004, Commuter train No.3241N derailed and the tunnel above it collapsed.
You are the sole survivor of this horrific train wreck. A pipe has burst, and the tunnel is slowly flooding.
With both sides of the tunnel blocked with rubble and concrete, your last hope is to dig through the soft soil above you.
Dun dun! this is my most ambitious LD entry so far, I hope everyone enjoys. :v: (if game crashes or lags badly, close and reopen.)
Info:

-D,Right-Arrow = Move right
-W,Space,Up-Arrow = Move up

Overall good job :)
However, I felt that the controls where a bit tedious. Why do I need to confirm everytime I dig? After the first time, we know that it'll take an hour...
The mood was nice, and I felt and urge to search the internet whether it was based on a true story or not.
The pace is a little slow indeed but not that much.
Overall it's a nice entry and I had fun playing it. It would not take much to enhance it to the next level.
Cheers!
It would be easier to read if the texts were bigger. I was playing it on the TV screen and I couldn't read the instructions.
Also, I would have liked to play more if there was a music playing in the background.

*Almost there...*
Anyway, I really like the atmosphere - from an unsuspecting everyday commuter to a desperate fighter for life in mere seconds.
As for @boltkey, yes this was made in the paid version of Clickteam fusion, however I can make a cut down version that should be able to run on the free one (will need some time tho, and is uncertain whether is doable).
Enjoy!
ill keep the fullscreen version tho.
Also added two bottles of water and a box of food.
I still think though it was a pretty nifty game , especially for your third Ludum Dare! Well done!
:)
First, when you're in the train station, every time we bought a ticket, the ticket would disappear if clicked. It works fine if you drag the ticket into the "Use" box, but if you just click it, it seems to vanish and can't be put into use or inventory. I'm not sure where it's going to, maybe it's too small for me to find after dropping it. (I had to restart when this happened)
Second, there's something a little off about the collision, I think. Sometimes you can just sort of glitch through the dirt walls and then you just float upward until there's a gap in the dirt where you stop and are deposited into the gap. Which makes it easier to cheat at the game, but defeats the purpose a little bit haha.
As others have mentioned, the story text is REALLY small and hard to read.
Lastly, after we completed the game, whether by winning or losing, the cursor vanished for us every time. We had to exit the game and restart it to start another run.
(Also: Is there any point to the glowsticks? We just left them at the bottom since you don't really need light haha.)
Great use of the theme! Enjoyable survival game. :smiley_cat:
Thank you guys for all the comments and feedback!
@derpyjish Yeah, I kinda implemented a quick pickup and drop feature after the 72 hours, but later removed it due to possible violation of the rules. Ill re-add it after the Jam tho. Thanks for the feedback.
@kr4ft3r I agree, it takes alot of time to get back to where you were if you died and had to replay. Unfortunately I was unable to think of a reliable way to save and reload checkpoints. I might try adding one after the Jam tho. Thanks for the feedback!
@max-cahill The dirt clumps were originally the same size as the hole you dug, and the smaller clumps were added at the last minute, unfortunately this meant I did not have enough time to implement the mechanic to re-dig these clumps (planned time needed to dig was 30 minutes). I will be adding the ability to re-dig these clumps after the Jam however. Thanks for the feedback!
@astralore The ticket, for some unfathomable reason, would vanish if you picked up and later dropped it. Why this happens I unfortunately don't know even after digging through the code. Will try fixing it but don't hope too much.
As for the collisions, yes, CF2.5's built in collision is pretty shitty, and this was made worse because of the massive amount of dirt blocks. I MIGHT redo the collisions, but also don't hope too much. (And I intentionally left in the wall glitch for those who wanted to finish the game faster.)
Yeah, text is smaaaaallll, which is why I added the "Fullscreen" version, unless it was still very small, to which I am at a loss.
The missing cursor is because I forgot to re-enable it after the ending screen, whoops, small quick fix added.
As for the glowsticks, the game was originally absurdly dark. In fact I might just make it absurdly dark for a new "hard mode".
Thanks for the feedback!
I enjoyed the mood of the game and the whole intro bit reminded me of the second level of Flashback, which was cool. Shame there was a crash, I wanted to see where our character was going! I can see this developing into a nice game, like an inverted, survival based Mr Driller style game. I liked the survival aspect of it but maybe too strict with the limited inventory. I think you have the basis a good game here, I think you should give it some post jam love. Good job!
PS. On my third play I seemed to warp through the dirt at the beginning on the tunnel.
