Space Cakes by ChrisAntem

[raw]
made by ChrisAntem for LD 38 (COMPO)

http://pixelworks.esy.es/spacecakes/ (I do not know how to publish the link of the game, so here is it)

For the 15th birthday of Ludum Dare, our Parisian spatiocooker, Youri Margarine, travelled space to take the best space cakes of our galaxy ! Problem : they grow on the littlest planets due to their scarcity. And the air tank of Youri is also little, so hurry up !

In each level, use arrows to move and spacebar or Ctrl to jump. First, take the space cake, then go back to the rocket to clear the level. The more air you keep, the more points you get. Candy will take you more points, bubbles more air.

Be careful of water which empties your tank and makes you slower, and lava that will kill you instantly.

In each level we keep your best score. Get the best total to unlock the following levels (you can tell us you best total score in comments) !

Made in less than 72 hours by ChrisAntem (and Construct 2), Joxynox (and Paint.net and Aseprite), Rouksos (for the little music of the title) and Messire_Cookie (for the sounds).

You entered the wrong bracket. You entered the Compo, but this is obviously a Jam game.

**Graphics:** I really like the graphics. Looks very clean and well-drawn. Nothing to criticize here. I especially like the title screen artwork.

**Audio:** The SFX are okay I guess, but the lack of music hurts the game quite a bit. Not much else to say.

**Gameplay:** I like the idea, and it's fun for a while. It starts to lose me when you get to level 4, because the level design just isn't that much fun. I liked the jumping from land to land, but then it starts throwing in these gigantic danger zones and it feels really clunky getting around them.
I really think the gameplay itself is quite good, but the level design needs a bit of work. I expected it to go in a different direction, but in the end it's still fun and not bad at all.

Overall I think this is a solid entry. Well done.

Yes, this is definitely a Jam game, but... Well, it is a new website and I was so tired. Can I (or someone from the staff or something else) pass in Jam ?

Thank you for your review, it was difficult to make a finished product and it is good you liked it.
We think of a post-mortem version with better (I hope) levels.
