PlayMenu.png

Summary: You are a boy who has been touching by a bad curse to his right arm. This curse will block your view of the environnement, you will run out of space. To save yourself you have to find 3 relics and go back to see the wizard next to the fire.

Tuto.png

Interact with the environnement to go through obstacles and reach the relics. If the curse is taking you too much in shadows, go back to see the wizard, he will heal you just the time you stay with him.

Be brave ! But be aware ! But most important, HAVE FUN !

This game is my favorite kind of puzzle game. A small bug: after restarting a bunch of times, every time I would go left of the fire, my character instantly appears on the other side of the first pit. At first, not a big deal other than being slightly disorienting for a second. Except that normally you can't fall into pits, but in this case, I could walk right in and then get stuck in the pit (so need a restart button, or a bug fix).

I enjoyed it a lot, and would love to play more/an extended version.

Victory! Nice game with a good art style. Returning to the campfire to ward off the darkness is a good mechanic. Great work!

Ranked your for graphics and mood. I couldn't figure out any way to interact with the game. (click? WASD? arrows? nothing happened...) @netguy204 and I'll come back and rank the other elements.

I couldn't get my character to move :'(, I tried arrow keys, Q,D, and clicking everywhere.
I thought the detail of applying the fire glow to the robed guy was cool though

Hello everyone, thanks for all your comments ! We are so happy that you like our game ! :D
Sorry for the resolution.. @andrey-ugolnik

Yeah we saw these bugs when we play on the link, but it's strange because there aren't when we play on our coding software.. Maybe problem of importation ? @jerripo

Thank you !! @landosystems

@netguy204 For how to play you should click on "Commands" when you are on the menu to see how to play, you move with Q&D and you click on the elements of the environment to go forward. We know that the objectif is a bit difficult to understand because we didn't succeed to make it appears on the web homepage.. I'll try to make it soon !

@minord Yes, we'll try to fix it ! Sorry !

@star-garden Sorry for it.. We don't know why it doesn't work sometimes.. Maybe you should try to play without the fullscreen because the game doesn't work in fullscreen (we don't know why..) Happy that you like "Papy on fire" ! xD

Nice game ! The mood and the visual details really drew me in.

Pros :
- The graphics : beautiful, detailed, and really contribute to tour game's identity
- The moody sound
- The idea of mixing a "runner" with point-and-click-like riddles is a great one
- The riddles themselves are great

Cons :
- Choppy framerate in some places
- Tenuous link to the theme

Additional remarks :
- I only found one relic, when three were advertised, before the game told me to restart : did I miss something ?
- Using Q & D as default move keys is not the most practical for non-AZERTY users ;)

Cool that you did all the walk cycles and stuff!

I'm also guessing you use AZERTY keyboards?

Good effort. Graphics and sound were nice.

Controls felt frustrating to use at first d and q?
Loved the idea of solving puzzles to get around the map. Wasnt really clear on your LD page, or in game that you needed to use the mouse to navigate around.

Good effort

@jlv Thank for all your remarks ! For the choppy framerate we don't know why it happened because it works well on our software coding.. For the relics, one is at the end of the right, the second at the end of the left, and when you get the two, a passage open at the start of the left (you click on it and arrive at the last part of the game). Sorry for the non-AZERTY users !! We don't realise at all that it could be difficult to use Q&D >_< We'll be more careful next time !

@echo-team Thanks ! It was fun but very long to draw x) Yes.. Sorry..

@sharky3188 Thank you ! Sorry we use AZERTY keyboard so we didn't realise at the moment it could be frustrating.. Happy that you like this idea ! Yes it's a bit difficult to understand we were running out of time and where hoping that the controls & how to play will be enough to understand.. Will try to add better description !

Simple enough! Was a little odd having Q move left and D move right. But, the game was simple enough to understand. Puzzle solving reminded me a bit of a point and click adventure mixed with some platformer mechanics. Great for a second game jam game!

Cool game! Loved the graphics, they are on point with the mood of the game. I did find one bug, when I scrolled down and clicked outside of the game box it stopped responding to my input (which is normal I think), but once I scrolled back up and clicked in the game box too keep playing, input was no longer detected and I had to refresh the browser page (using Chrome). Not game-breaking though. Good job!

@thunderawesome Yes sorry we didn't realise that playing with a AZERTy keyboard will be different with a QUERTY keyboard for only 2 keys.. Happy you like it !! And thank you !

@divinenephron Thanks ! We would put many lure but we were running out of time.. We'll try to refine it !

@estudios-y-producciones-gusa Thank you !! Oh ! Didn't know this bug was possible.. Sorry for it !

Interesting idea! Didn't get very far but there is potential in game where you have to keep an encroaching force from consuming you, and finding items or places that help you get deeper. I would work on trying to nail a consistent art style. The background and characters don't really match. I would also avoid having the player go on a clicking spree and have puzzles that are more thoughtful about what to do to proceed, like in Machinarium.

Cool mood, and the character's animation is really nice. Returning to the campfire to heal was handled really well too, as you don't really notice how much the curse has been growing when you're away, and it feels really cleansing to have it all removed at the fire.

@carlos-giraldo Yes the character and the background have different art style, at the start we thought it could be interesting but now with the final, yes should do the same art style.. It's a very interesting reference but we were running out of time, and with the curse taking you along the game, it would be difficult to mix the two (and we are limited on programming for the moment..). But thank you for your comment !

@justinmullin Happy you like it ! Thanks !

@abhis1kadian You can't open it on your browser ?

@yolp900 Thank you ! Really happy you like it and it gives you ideas !

If the commands don't work reload the page. For me was working only not in fullscreen. Classic game idea that does not match with the theme by the way. I feel stressed the same way so is not space, is distance in the end. Don't stop learning: animated sprites are not everything and other techniques could have really improved the experience!

Great work on the animation. Going back to the fire is a nice little mechanic. It open up doors for possibilities. Like how the game doesn't tell you where things are and you are suppose to find out for yourself to move on in the game. Good job

Simple but good! The art style and animation was nice and consistent and fit the game together with the sound. I liked how the curse was truly on the right side of the boy (you guys didn't just mirror the sprite). The mechanic was simple and the puzzles were pretty much trivial, but I still was interested for the entirety of the game. Finding the third relic was actually somewhat of a challenge compared to the first two (since it required you to do something new), that was very nice. Only downside is that sidescrolling the world slowed down the fps or something which made it a bit more boring to walk the longer distances. Also kudos for actually putting a help screen in the game that concisely explained how the game works. Those little details go a long way. Lastly, it's fine if you want to support q and d for walking, but please also support the arrow keys (and h and l for us vimmers while you're at it). I have an EU keyboard and q and d are just strange for me.

@optimans We're sorry for the fullscreen we don't know why it doesnt work. I admit the theme is difficult to see, the problem is that we wanted to make something original but with our notion of programming it's very difficult. That why there are more animations than others mecanisms. And we where running out of time too.. But thanks for you comment !

@tlcoc Thank you ! Really happy you like it !

@bobismijnnaam Thank you ! Sorry for the reduction in speed, we absolutely don't why it happens because on our programming software it works normally.. Yes for the keyboard, we have a AZERTY so we didn't realise that people using a QUERTY keyboard will find it difficult to use Q & D. And we thought that using the arrows won't comfortable with the mouse while playing.. But we'll think about it for next time !

I use a QWERTY keyboard, but I didn't mind [Q] and [D]; it was comfortable for me. I like the character design and the forest very much. The music adds a spooky atmosphere. (The fire might be a little bit too loud compared to the music.) A very frustrating bug for me: the game kept crashing me back to RESTART. I could never figure out what was triggering my death.
Lu7cie
21. Aug 2018 · 20:05 UTC
@wrenpirate Happy you like it ! Thanks ! (We take note for next time !). The RESTART is a little bit buged, but we still don't know why. Normally you can only die if the curse consume you, it means that your character was entirely encircled by the violet. To finish the game you should often go back to the old man at the campfire to heal you, and when the violet disappear on your screen, continue your adventures (the riddles solved are saved, you can't finish the game in one shot, pauses at the campfire are inevitables).
WrenPirate
21. Aug 2018 · 21:53 UTC
@lu7cie Ah, okay. I played again, paying more attention to the violet haze. I made it all the way to victory! The haze is a more artistic way of expressing what would normally be a status bar. Could you add some bigger indicator when the old man heals me: a noise or a flash or animation from the old man? It would be nice if he tried a little harder to help by running around with me. Maybe he needs to meditate by the fire or has no legs.
Lu7cie
23. Aug 2018 · 09:47 UTC
@wrenpirate Yes if we continue the game we'll add more noise or animations to make understand when he heals you. Ahahah ! I never think that he could have no legs, but maybe it could be a part of the story ! We'll think about it ! Thanks for the idea ! xD

i found both the relics! at least i assume there were only two of them, there was no victory screen.
the mechanic of running out of time and needing to return to the center added some tension. the puzzle design could be improved, at the moment you just click on background items and it's not clear how they relate to the puzzle. the art was nice.
Lu7cie
27. Aug 2018 · 11:42 UTC
@big-cow No there are really three relics ! When you've got the 2 of each side, you have to go back at the left, a passage has open and you have to click on it to go to the third part of the forest to pick up the last relic and
then go back to the campfire to have the victory screen ;) For the puzzle design we would like to put some tricks to make it more clear how the obstacles are solved but with a lack if time we didn't.. Thanks for your comment !

Interesting game! Nice graphics and ambient audio. Really helps to establish the mood. The character run cycle is great. I also enjoy the mechanic of having to return to the fire to ward off the curse. I thought Q was a bit of a bizarre choice for left. Also if I made the game fullscreen or clicked anywhere outside the game frame the game wouldn't reclaim keyboard focus. Good job overall!

28. Aug 2018 · 16:19 UTC
@balance686 Thank you ! Happy you like it ! Sorry for the Q, it's because we use AZERTY keyboard so we don't realize that QUERTY users will find it difficult.. And for the fullscreen we didn't have explanation.. Sorry ! But thanks again !

Have to say I'm a bit torn. Atmosphere and most of the graphics is really nice - like the animations, the fire, the trees in the back - but the ground really doesn't fit the art style, and the environment interaction seems like you ran out of time before properly implementing it. Also the game got extremely laggy every time the camera moved with the player.

It took me a while to figure out how I was supposed to overcome the obstacles, but that worked out well after a while. Even though I still don't know how a piece of what appears to be rock not only destroys a wooden wall, but on top of that turns into a nice bridge. :D But well, a bit of game logic is certainly welcome in jam games.

All in all good work despite the mentioned issues. Maybe next time use keys that work for all players though - although I realize it must be really irritating for you to encounter all these WASD games, right? :D So maybe some due revenge actually.
Lu7cie
01. Sep 2018 · 12:58 UTC
@very-dark-lord The art style of the ground wasn't suppose to be seen because we planned to have a frontground to hide this one but we met many problems of size so we removed it.. Yes we ran out of time to correctly put all the buttons in the environment for the interactions. For the lags we don't know why it happens and we're sorry about that..

I promise you, it was suppose to be logic ! XD We planned to put tricks and the clues of how go through the obstacles like for the rock bridge with already putting many rocks in the hole and clicking on a rock will complete the bridge to allow you to pass !

For the QUERTY users we're sorry we didn't mean to make any revenge x) But for playing all the WASD I changed my keyboard in ENG and I'll see where are the letters on this keyboard on internet to play games x)

Thank you for your comment ! Happy that you like the game anyway ! :D
