Blood Sacrifice by monkeedude1212

[raw]
made by monkeedude1212 for LD 43 (COMPO)

For Ludum Dare 43 I wanted to challenge myself with something I haven't tried before. And that is to make a multiplayer game involving networking.

While the rest of game is somewhat lacking, and it's janky with Unity's matchmaker service sometimes, I have at least learned a lot about the Unity Networking layers and how to utilize them, even if a bit improperly. I already know what I would do differently and plan on using the next few weeks as a chance to exercise refactoring bad code into nice code.

But enough of that, here's my compo entry. You can, of course, run two side by side if no one is able to join you for matchmaking. Also, if you don't seem to enter a match properly, you'll have to close and retry. I have not yet figured out how to have Unity properly dispose of matches other than the normal "wait a few seconds cleanup" that they do, but players can be quicker than that.

I was super confused until I came back and read that I'd have to wait for somebody else to join. Was a neat game. Wish there was more to it.

Take a look at the instruction and you will not be confused. Wait a moment for others joining and the game will start.
48 hours for a online multiplayer game, really good work!

The game crashed as soon as I pressed space. I guess my team member gets a free win because they stayed connected

sorry but the game crashed every time I tried. Maybe it is a problem with the connection.

I'm trying out the game more than a week after the compo and there are no players to play with. Although I really appreciate the effort for MP game I think it is not the best option for the competitions since you will hardly gather players that will be around to test it.

I couldn't find somebody to play with so I just opened two games as you suggested. I thought the concept was really smart! It's a bit limited; it would have even more potential if there were items or events, but I understand the networking part took a lot of time. Nitpick: the followers blocked my movement pretty often and I had a hard time distinguishing my character from them.

It's a shame that not many people will try your game (because of the multiplayer aspect), I think you deserve more exposure. Good work!
