Car jump by Samuli Salonen

[raw]
made by Samuli Salonen for LD 39 (JAM)

What would go wrong when a car is equipped with a rocket engine?

The fuel could run out and that would be bad.

Car jump is a quite interesting experiment where you can set up your engines to make you car fly as far as possible.

The goal is to get the best score possible, you will get some bonus points from flips and collisions with the boxes.

It's our first time doing LD and we had a blast doing this "game", physics are honestly just terrible but it's a feature that makes the game harder. :)

Good game, I like this kind of games to see how much you can jump.

Congratulations!

Hoo boy is that rocket car tricky to control! A fun game, with some cool features. I love that you can attach your own engines, I just wish they would persist from one jump to the next so I didn't have to re-add them every time. Otherwise, nice to blow through stuff and crash a bunch, thanks for making this!

There are some annoying bugs, but the idea is fun and the result too, congrats !

Got some issues, but cars with rocket engines are always fun! :)

In my case camera was behind the bars and i can't see car clearly.
Is there an option to rotate camera when placing engines?

@quemagalletas Thanks :).

@aircraft-terrier Thanks for the feedback, i was planning to serialize the engines but the physics took way too much time and by the end it still didn't work as well as planned :D.

@hairaz Yea it's my first time experimenting with unity physics and it kinda shows here :D.

@royoyo There's a tip saying that you can rotate the camera with scrollbutton held down :).

Hey, Nice game! Reminds me old flatout2 mini games :D Such a good and warm feelings while playing this!
But i think you should remove wooden wall behind the car - it closes the view

Tried playing it, but engines dont seem to rotate with car so I didnt make it so far.

@sergius haha i think you broke the game as you have the new highscore,

did you fly out of the game area? :D

Jam game of Flatout! It took me a while to understand the controls but I did it, yet it wasn't enough for me to get a good highscore.

Great and unique idea, but unfortunatelly badly implemented(car bounces like a ball). Definitelly needs more polishing.

Game could definitely get some extra polish on top but I had fun with it so have my kudos :)

Also, I would opt-out from Humor and Mood category, as your game is niether moody nor humorous :P

This is a very funny and interesting game! I could never seem to get the car to go off the ramp correctly (It always veered to the left when I tried going forwards) but it was still fun to watch it fly and bounce off the boxes. It could definitely use some polishing, but it is great so far.

Funny Game - the car is hard to control but its funny to jump through the boxes lol. Great idea.

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

I had trouble with the physics and car control to the point where i almost quit,
it's somehow working now so i guess that's a win.

Now that i think of it,
we probably should've done 2D, since it's 1 less dimension to worry about,
or option 2 would be not include physics in the game at all. :)

The physics are indeed wonky. Driving down a ramp should be the easiest task, not the hardest!

I would have liked to see some targets up in the air, like rings or stars, to go for. Crashing into boxes is a bit too trivial, once you do manage to clear the ramp that is.

Not a bad idea and only partially dreadful excecution. I'd call that a pretty good first jam.

Visually, you've done an amazing job! The models and textures are top-notch! The gameplay is also an interesting concept, but a bit barebones. I'd like more stuff to crash into :)
