Survival Deck by meles

[raw]
made by meles for LD 41 (COMPO)

Lay down the top card from your hand to expand the map. Ending your turn on a tile that is connected to similar tiles on all four sides is more likely to yeild more advanced cards. Completing event cards can yeild loot to help you in your quest, some are harder than others. Ending your turn on the cabin tile has a small chance to yeild higher tear loot.

I struggled with this theme a lot and the result is not what I had hoped for, there are a lot of features I had considered but had to forget about as time ticked away, for example the original plan had included a base building and expansion concept that would have allowed you to gather resources from various tiles in order to advance. I also wanted to give the enemy units some movement during the enemy turn, this again never came to anything and they are now static. I also had ideas for music and sound which also had to be shelved due to running out of time after having to spend a substantial amount of sunday tracking down some bugs and squishing them. Honestly not my strongest LD entry, but I hope you enjoy what little game is there. Hints: Skeletons are the toughest unit, you cannot defeat them with your starting stats, try and get a different weapon before taking them on. Rats are a useful source of Action Points. Snakes offer a temporary attack bonus.

Lakes and Mountain cards where intended to be the "next level" after mastering the woodland, sadly I ran out of time and now they're not all that useful.

I'd like to think I will expand on what I have here sometime, and maybe I will if you all enjoy what little is currently here, I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

My antivirus was very suspicious of your game.

This concept definitely has potential. If you decide to expand on it later, do some playtesting with friends. Find out what works, and what's fun, and focus on that. It sounds to me like you tried to add complexity before you had the basics fully figured out.

@Alans-Antics I did work on the core mechanics first, before implementing any of my grander ideas but having never made anything quite like this before I was at a complete loss as to how to go about doing a lot of it. that's what really ate up the time (that and bug squishing)
Thanks for the feedback. I may add to it in the future, but honestly I say that after every LD and never do!!

This is a great idea! I love the drawn-on-map graphical style. However, the game feels pretty slow. Also, some good audio sfx could really help hit
