Pathjumper by mrnyarlathotep

An experimental ship, lost in space, low on power, little hope of survival.
My compo entry for LD39, and in something of a recurring theme I ran out of time to do any audio, because I got way too ambitious and had to scale back a lot to hit the deadline.

Controls
WASD / Cursors for movement, should also work with joypads (let me know!)
Shift keys / Left Mouse Button to fire
1/2/3/4 hotkeys to toggle your ships subsystems
Space bar is emergency stop.
Most actions you can take cost power, so turning things off when you don't need them is a good idea!

Tools Used
Unity / Blender / Photoshop Elements.
Fonts used were Ricasso-Regular and TranscendsGames under the Open Font Licence
If you want any of the assets I made for this game (Which is basically all of the assets used in this game) I'll add the OpenGameArt link here when I've uploaded there, because why waste assets?

Only Issue I had with the game is the smoke effect when moving gave me a bit of motion sickness. I think its the disconnect between the speed of the player and the speed of the smoke.
Regardless it is fun to play. Reminded me of some retro games
At first I was confused, because no enemies were spawning. Then I got swarmed, lel.
It's a nice shooter with good gfx and multiple options to spend energy. If I had to complain about something, it would be lack of timer/scoring. And I understand the lack of soundscape, but you should've at least made a shooting sound; it's 5 minutes in bfxr. Good job in overall.
The Fuel Scoop lets you pick up energy (blue cubes) that sometimes enemies drop and that sometimes you can mine from asteroids - if its not turned on you just fly past them.
@starlight-glimmer-is-best-poney - I make all my LD games web only, because realistically a lot of people are going to play them for less time than it takes to download / unzip / install / uninstall / delete, plus I get Mac & Linux dudes for free
*edit*: FWIW, Unity WebGL performance is usually pretty good in Firefox, if you're using Chrome I highly recommend turning WebGL 2.0 on if you haven't already
@mathijs750 - thanks for letting me know about the gamepad! I don't have one handy to test myself, but if its as easy to support as it seems I'll probably support it a bit better in future
As for the gameplay itself controlls for me were a bit hard to master - the ship was turning slowly and the whole steering did not feel right. But I might just be nitpicking.
Overall great work! I really like this game :)
I'm not really sure what I should be doing. After playing it for awhile I guess it's to survive as long as possible. I think the game would benefit from a 'score' screen at the end of each play through to give a sense of achievement and also a goal for the next play through, e.g. "I survived for 30 seconds! Maybe I can survive longer if I used a different strategy."
Keep up the good work!
Good luck!
