Growth without end (unfinished) by Erkberg

[raw]
made by Erkberg for LD34 (COMPO)
This game is unfinished. Very unfinished. It has no end, no ingame instructions and very little gameplay and content. It also contains bugs and is not polished at all.

The idea was to do some RTS-style gameplay and show the struggle of fighting cancer. In the beginning it spreads uncontrollably. Then, with the help of chemo therapy, one should've been able to fight back (these are the white units). But once the cancer has been beaten, it would've appeared again in a different place. In the end only surgery could've helped. This, I imagined, would've been implemented as a kind of super weapon, like a nuke, destroying a large portion of cells. I also planned more unit types.
The only things I managed to get in there are the first two stages. In the first one you can click the cancer units to kill them, but they are too many. In the second stage you get your own units and can control them by leftclicking them and then rightclicking somewhere.

I struggled at lot this time around. I started working on this idea and after 10 hours I saw that it would not work out. I then started anew with a different idea, only to toss it again after a couple of hours and restart again. On the second day I returned to this game, because the other ideas did not turn out to be fun as well. My motivation was around 0 at that point, so I did not manage to get much further.

I think the concept itself is not bad at all, but I did not manage to build a good game around it. I do like the music though and watching the units fight is kind of meditative, I think.

Maybe you might enjoy part of this as well. Feel free to not rate this game (I only included the categories which I think are barely rateable) or leave me a comment.

Next time around, everything will certainly be better! :)

As you described in your description this is not a "game" but I also really like the idea and the soundtrack. Also there is not a lot to do to make it a good game. For example if I could control where the black "clouds" are getting emitted. Or maybe I could play the white balls? Never the less I like what you tried here!

Good music composition. I can see the melancholic mood that you intended to set
