Great Patch by Kobrar

[raw]
made by Kobrar for LD 42 (JAM)

Land on Earth has long been claimed by nations of old. When political order of the world crumbles while ecosystem degrades, some people take to the oceans on great recycling ships in search of a new way of life.

Also a game in need of a Great Patch.

Why did I think I could finish this in 3 days?

Hmm, weird game ! Anyway. Didn't quite understand what was going on and how to equip my ship, finishing with a full front canon equiped ship. It kinda worked, in a way, as I was wrecking havok on ennemies but only when I was able to have them in front of me. Ship is too slow however.

Way to go! The automatic canons felt way more superior to the manual canons. The time it took to turn the ship around made it really hard to aim with them. Good job otherwise!

An interesting idea, it just feels like you didn't have enough time to finish it. Building the ship was fun, but when sailing around, I was fired at a couple of times, but I never saw another ship, so it really didn't feel like there was a lot to do. It might just have been my luck, but I'd definitely recommend making enemies more frequent and adding a few sound effects.
That said, great idea, really unique and nice take on the theme!

Doesn't work with my resolution I guess. 3000x2000 surface pro. :/

@lars-erik it should work with any HD+ resolution. In what way does it not work? Are you using mouse and keyboard?

Hey, thank you for making the game!

The game could be rather fun, but the mechanics inside of the game were, unfortunately, a bit lacking. The shipbuilding was nice, but having to choose the turret I want to place each time grew rather annoying after a while. The 'meat' itself was a bit too slow paced too - the ship takes forever to turn, there's no much indication of the range of your weapons, lack of feedback for the player.

This could prove to be a fun game if you worked on it post jam! Congratulations on getting what you had in 3 days still. ;)

Great start! I liked arranging the turrets although I'd definitely like to see more info on that screen, with various power levels or rates of fire visible. I also agree about the usability fixes like being able to place more than one of the same kind of turret without clicking back.

I also was shot at from offscreen a lot, and never saw any enemies. My turrets couldn't target them, so mostly I slowly floated around and lost hp. It would be cool for this part to get more attention in the future, adding more enemies, polishing the controls, and adding objectives.

@lars-erik I have added a download for the game in resizeable windowed mode. Please check if it helps.

Could you also provide more specific system information? Which surface pro model? Os? Resolution?

Possible workaround: make sure the project executable is marked as **DPI-aware**; right-click it, then go to **Properties**, choose the **Compatibility** tab then force the display scaling mode to **Application**.

The idea is really great! If you released a post-jam version with some polish and sound I could play it all day long

The scroll wheel doesn't work on Mac, and I agree that everything seems just a bit too slow-paced to be entertaining. Good luck on improvements!
