Too Close by Zayah0_0

made by Zayah0_0 for LD 42 (JAM)

Too Close is a game made for ludun dare 42. I ran out of time due to electricity going in my area so this project is rushed and flawed sadly.

Too Close is a game where you have to escape an asylum. The character has severe claustrophobia so avoid getting crowded by the doctors and nurses.

Get the key card to unlock the main office in order to access the elevator to escape

You need to make the game public in your itch.io settings for the game or we can't see it!

I feel really bad for the electricity issue you had.. I would have really liked to see this game in a better state. But the take on the theme was really interesting, I liked it.

The concept of the game is really interesting. It could really use some feedback when enemies are hit, and some hints about where to go.

Sorry about the electricity; a bit more polish could have made this game really interesting.

Interesting concept; also, the execution was decent considering the limited time you had! The red filling the screen definitely gives it a feeling of claustrophobia.

I loved the effect when you take damage. at the one point where you get attacked by 4 enemies at once is a bit much difficulty wise.

This game was fun! The red frame really added to the mood, and made me panic. I liked the idea of running out of personal room. Good work! Small bug: After you beat the game, it goes back to the main screen, but your character is still there and can move.

I liked the Legend of Zelda room layout but it seemed a bit samey and I got lost alot. Still liked it

quite good !, the control and the gameplay feels fine, theres couple bug i found tho ,sometimes even if the i click and the direction of attack is on point, the attack not register, and also the "hurt" overlay indicator not show full screen ,just part , seems to be too big to fit or something, room layout also kind of confusing, map will help, but overall well done !

Hey there! Good job on the game I liked the movement and the art you had for the game! I understand your electricity went out so obviously its not perfect, but that being said I think the game deserves some audio to really enhance it. I would've also liked more indication when my character was attacking than just the little red box on his arm. The level design was really cool though so kudos!

Not a bad entry, I think a lot of things could be improved, but its good that you have put everything together. Great job!

I have few suggestions:
- If the person you are playing as has a claustrophobia it would be interesting to have it popout by the entering small rooms / narrow corridors
- I might be actually more interesting without an abilityto attack as now I just walked through killing everyone on the way

Although this was a rushed project it was still quite enjoyable, I really liked the concept of running out of screen space and the gameplay was pretty challenging.

Sorry to hear about your power issue/hurdles during development. That said, it's a great effort. I really like the art style; I loved the Mona Lisa painting in that style! The animation is cute too.. walking kind of looks like ice skating, but that's okay, it worked well and was pleasant to view.

I like the concept! The art style, while simple, has a retro feel that I dig. Also losing viewing area as your panic meter rises provides added incentive to lower it so you can properly navigate the environment. I'd like if the enemy attacks made the meter rise faster because they are inconsequential atm.
Very unfortunate about the power situation! You may be aware of these but a couple bugs I noticed are:
- When you finish the game you can still walk around. This can lead to you being stuck in the wall when you restart
- If you go back down after you enter the second room you can navigate around through the walls

Cool mechanic! I liked how you used the theme so that the character was running out of physical/mental space to deal with those around them. It took me a few tries but I finally made it to the end. Fun to have a stealth game in the mix. I think this is the first one of those I've played in this jam. Nice work! Thanks for the kind words on Dungeon Time. I'm glad you had fun! Take care and congrats on finishing! :)
