Game does feel a bit chaotic to new players though. A mini-map would help.
I had some fun with this. I used the power glove to rebuild around my base, making it easier to farm all that sweet loot. I think I got too high movement speed, because I basically had no control in the end.
I didnt get the enemies at first, but then I realised that enemies -> xp -> higher values on loot. Nice! Multiplayer would probably work really good. Well done
I liked the auto-attacking, which really streamlined the intentionally grindy fighting, and made it feel a lot better (and even kinda satisfying) as opposed to spam-clicking. It's also bonkers to me that you got procedural generation done so well in 48 hours, and overall the game was short and fun. Well done!
Actually attacking doesn't have much of a feel. The disadvantage of auto-attack is that the player feels disengaged, so that's something to consider.
I found the game very easy as-is, because I could just walk around collecting the power-ups around my castle and then kill everything in sight. The carrying back power-ups idea is cool, but I think they need to be rarer.
White text on grey = bad!
The music fits the game well. So very much bass though, I had to turn my subwoofer down.
Really good entry!
Graphics - the characters were simple but looks quite nice. I couldn't tell what are the monsters though. The fact that the color changes when you walk into an enemy territory is kind of cool.
Sound, Music - pretty good sound effects, I noticed different power up have different sound effects which was neat. Music was quite epic and worked well with the theme.
Gameplay: the core gameplay is sound I think, it is a nice twist to traditional rpgs. I had fun leveling up my characters. However, there are quite a few issues with the gameplay (not major issues because I find the core game loop is quite fun):
- I think the map is a bit too big. In the end I had trouble finding the last king. With a huge map, the fun is less concentrated and less resource contention beteween the kings.
- There are wayyyyy to many pick ups. The idea of picking up power is cool. However there are way too many of them and as a player I was quite confused why there were so many pickups. At the end I found out I actually didn't need many of them. I can easily farm enemies and get levels without picking up a lot of the powers. Picking up and putting back to the castle is very tedious with that many pickups as well. I suggest you significantly cut down the number of pick ups but make them more powerful (tune down the movement speed as well so you can't quickly pick up all of them). With less pickup and a smaller map, all the kings will have to fight for the pick ups which would make things interesting
- Enemies spawn way too frequently and there are way too many of them. I kind of got confused about why there are enemies and they spawn instantly. They provide a lot of exp and leveling up give you stats as well. So i found it more optimal to just sit at enemies spawns and farm them instead of going through the processing of picking up power ups.
With that said, the core game is definitely enjoyable. I spent 15 minutes playing the game and beating it tells you that it is fun :) However I think you need to drastically scale back down all of the elements and try to create a more resource sacred world where player and AI actually have to fight for survival which will make the game better.
Thanks for the game though I enjoyed it!
- It's much quicker to move diagonally, isn't it? Seems like the movement vectors are multiplied but not normalized.
- There's a really annoying popping sound every 2 seconds. Might be in the soundtrack.
- Too many enemies at the circles. I could just stand there and level up like crazy. It felt like I didn't even need to collect powerups, because they give so much exp.
- The web build runs very slowly for some reason.
Overall it's a really cool game. It just lacks a bit of polish and balancing. Good work though.
But once I got into it a bit more, I could see a charming little RPG. The sound effects are nice, and it's programmed well. I just think you could maybe put some more time in balancing some things. I've seen other comments mention that at some point you can just stand still near the summoning circles and instantly kill anything that comes close.
Overall, I think it's nice, definitely has potential, just needs a little bit of polish.
You IA his quite stupid , 3 of them were level 2 ^^
But very nice, they effect when you approach from one of your ennemy with the music change!!
The farm to get stonger, with the item and the ennemy!
Just good job!! Best game ever!!
(play the original version)
If I have any complaint, it's probably that the other kings were pretty terrible at powering up. I just needed to find a monster spawn point and farm it for a little while, then grab some pick-ups, and all of the kings ended up being really weak in comparison.
The combat system was quite nice, the auto-attack was an interesting mechanic. Very satisfying once I built up some speed too!
Improvement suggestions: less pickups, maybe also allow placing them in any castle?
It seems there was some little bug while I played: I couldn't reach areas on the far right and bottom. Something was off I guess.
The mechanics were really good and I think you've created a great prototype that you can work on!
Very good job!
Though, you can easily become overpowered and quickly kill the other kings, still really fun to rack up the numbers though.
Really great for a compo game, well done :D
I like the gathering of powerups and how the combat is done. I can see this sort of game being expanded upon in so many different ways.
That being said, this game can get a little repetitive. The upgrades that you pick up are very small and can get outclassed by enemies quickly
The auto-attacking is a pretty good idea, but with high movement speed it makes it tricky to face an enemy to attack them.
Had fun playing, though!
The idea is pretty good and even though the actual gameplay is pretty simple, it's pretty fun!
The balancing is the biggest problem, along with the fact that the AI is pretty bad.. Even though it took me some time beating the game, it wasn't really challenging. Sometimes a really powerful enemy would appear, but since I had farmed up my speed I could just run away with my castle. It also annoyed me a little bit that there were invisible walls. It doesn't really matter gameplay wise, but I'd prefer an immovable wall of another color. I'm still a little bit confused by the world power thing, it never went anywhere under 1300 and I still don't really know what it actually did.
Graphics work pretty well even though they are simple. Music and sound is nice.
Well done!
