Goal of this simple bullet hell game is to get as many points as possible. You can collect powerups that will help you do that... Or not, because there's a catch! Every collected powerup lowers your speed. So even though you can kill enemies faster thanks to powerups, collecting them makes dodging bullets harder. The more you collect, the worse it gets!

Some other information: - No libraries were used. Game was written in pure javascript - Actually no, I had to make a small php script that saves highscores - You can choose from 4 different difficulties - I'm bad at naming games - I need to get some sleep

Impressive considering you used pure js :O
I like how fast you made this game, and also, I like that you really followed the theme!

Well done! :)

Really nice! Man, I am terrible at these sorts of games though - even on easy mode I couldn't survive long! Simple, fun to play, sticks to the theme!

I just got the highest score :) ! It's quite neat, even if classic. Job well done.

Cool that you used JS to make this. You deserve some sleep :')

Nice idea to get bonus becoming malus when stacked!

I would have loved that power-ups where more distinct from bullets (often ran into a bullet or dodged a power-up :) ) and to put my name on the leaderboard... But all that is details, great work!

Definitely a cool shmup game, but I found it pretty difficult? Maybe a HP bar and some iframes for the casual crowd?

Nicely done SHUMP, the controls and gameplay flow well and feel right. Super job on your entry!

P.S- Extra kudos for using only Javascript ;)

@insality @mess110 I don't know why web hosting I'm using doesn't work for some people, but here's a mirror: https://mega.nz/#!klRBgJBK!3zkKets8E747NH0hnyrNCOazT_u8cM_Guzwf2LFr9jY
You have to extract it and open index.html

Nice minimalistic design!
I always like the strategic choices that come with something that is both an advantage _and_ a disadvantage.

Speaking of the powerups, you could've just dropped a lot of them:
This wouldn't be overpowered, since each comes with the slowdown as well!
More importantly, the less players'd have to wait to get to the 'meat' of your game, the better :slight_smile:

There didn't seem to be a large difference between the modes.
Going from 'easy' to 'for weird people' seems like only slightly more than a single step should be.

Oooh, actual leaderboards ...
I guess these are the things those new half-stars are made for
(something that doesn't feel worth a _full_ extra star in and of itself, but should perhaps be rewarded anyway.)

@priweejt thank you

Its a cool game. In the beginning I detonated my bombs. That was no fun. Got over 20k score, quite challenging.

Yay, another person who decided to take a unique take on the shoot 'em up genre. Although I really enjoyed playing your game and appreciate the fact that you have an online leaderboard, I'd like to make some suggestions.
Firstly, please consider adding a description of what each power up do.
Secondly, the enemy and your character's collideable area is smaller than the actual sprite so that can get a bit confusing.
Thirdly, when I press the up or down arrow key the entire webpage scrolls up and down so I don't always have access to the UI at the top.

@priom Power ups are described in help (under items). Hitbox being smaller than sprite is intentional. It's made like this so you can't mistake your character for a bullet (or the other way around). Hitbox also becomes visible while holding shift. Regarding the scrolling problem, I guess it depends on the screen size. [Ctrl] + [-] can be used to zoom out in most modern browsers, so that may work as a workaround.
Glad you enjoyed it :)

Oh nice. Glad you had a response to all of my problems. I guess I'll try it out again XD

That was some nice and simple fun. It was really difficult though, and when I managed to get a (relatively) high score and rank 5th in the leaderboard, I was disappointed to see that I couldn't add my initials :`(

One thing I think could've made it somewhat better is if the powerups had a more unique shape. It's easy to confuse a powerup for a bullet when your screen is covered with them!
