Card Tower Defense by frozenfire92

[raw]
made by frozenfire92 for LD 42 (JAM)

A small elemental card based tower defense game.
You will defend waves of enemies by placing cards on tiles.
A tile can have up to four cards placed on it.
Each card and enemy have a power number and an element used in battles.
After each wave the map gets smaller. Join cards together in your deck to make a stronger card.
The game has 10 handmade waves. After which a simple wave generation takes over, how far can you get?

Cool game! I made it to the 7th wave. I can see getting more intro the strategy of card types and scores, but I still am getting the hang of it. Was very impressed with the multi-slide, animated tutorial, that was helpful!

The concept is so cool! I just wish I had more time to think: most of the time I found myself just throwing cards down randomly because I didn't have time to plan out a good defense. Still, it's a very strong idea and a fun little game.

It was fun once I got the hang of it. I didn't realize you could combine cards on the left side at first and just kind of placed them randomly. Once I got (from the tutorial) that you had to combine them it made more sense. Cool game!

Lost at wave 9, very fun game once you understood how to play!

It seemed very difficult to get past the seventh wave and some of it is luck because I think the upgrades are random. It was fun and I enjoyed combining cards. Was not sure if I should have only placed a couple cards so I could combine later. Determining the strategy was interesting.

Made it to Wave 11, which interestingly enough did not have a title. I think there was really only one strategy that works, and a lot of randomness made me feel like it was up to the game whether I won or lost. But even so, it was still fun to play! I liked combining the cards and it felt satisfying.

I think it would have been neat if I could pick cards back up again, or if when cards go away they damaged the enemies a bit so there was a bit more variety and strategy in the game. Thanks for making it!

Interesting and well thought out game mechanics, but maybe a bit too complicated for a jam game. The tutorial was very well done, but if you need 8 pages to explain the game you can also count out many of the more casual players who will give up after dragging cards randomly.
It would have helped if there was more visual feedback of how the strengths and weaknesses of the cards interact with each other and with the enemies.

Lots of elements to memorize. The core concept is interesting, but might take a while to grasp unless each element was introduced separately. Would like to see what the game could become if graphics were added!

Steep learning curve but I'm not one to complain. But I couldn't get the upgrading to work for some reason.

Interesting concept, however it wasn't always as clear as to what you the "towers" were meant to do. I went through the tutorial however I would prefer a live tutorial.

I liked the music and the idea. The game can be improved by slowly teaching user the rules. On my first attempt I died almost immediately (btw, the Restart button would be very helpful) which was frustrating. On the second attempt I survived to Wave 2, but still didn't get the rules completely.
