Buddies Bad Day by elit3dgaming

[raw]
made by elit3dgaming for LD 39 (JAM)

Buddies bad day is a game about a robot that runs out of energy with each move made. Get from point A to B by collecting ALL batteries to not run out of power

Keys: WASD = movement

Wish I had more time to work on this because I had a few interesting mechanics I wasn't able to add in.

Tools: - Visual Studio 2013 - SFML 2.4 (C++)

Very nice puzzle game (too short unfortunately... It would has been great to have a few more levels). I think it is a good idea and it fits perfectly with the jam theme. Nice work!!

Interesting idea but the game does feel a bit lacking without any other mechanics. What level you had where easy but fun.

I got a "missing MSVCP120D.dll" error which crashed the game. Maybe I need to download visual studio?

Great game! It reminds me a little of mine, and the puzzles were well designed. The game never got too challenging, and the presentation was very well done. I would love to see more!

Nice, it remainded me of my DROD days. Short and easy (not that I'm complaining).

A bit too short and could benefit from some additional mechanics or levels but not bad

I was glad that the element of complexity is present, but I'm sorry that you did not have enough time to create diversity. But I think the given element of the puzzle (charge) can quite well diversify the already existing puzzles.

Oh no, already over! Would also have liked to keep playing a little longer, but that was fun :)

Very nice game, style reminds me some of the retro games, the only thing that could be better are sound effects. Really nice.

I enjoyed my play. It's like this game is starting to be something cool. I don't mean it in a bad way, just give it some awesome level design and polish the details like sound effects (they're a little bit repetitive) and you'll have something to work with. Nice work, good luck!

The game is good, it looks nice and runs well. I don't know how you should make the gameplay more challenging but it misses something.

This is a very good game. It is well done and seems pretty polished. The sound and graphics were spot on with the retro style and worked well. I liked the puzzles you have in your game so far and I think that it would be great if you added more of them. They were fairly easy, but still quite fun and I am curious to see what you do with it. Overall, good job!

Congrats on fixing the errors. I like the puzzles you came up with and actually failed a few on the first try. Short but fun.

I really like the puzzles. They are simple and fun. I sort of wished there was music in the game. Also, I wished there was more fun puzzles to play! ;) Overall, wonderful job! Give yourself a pat on the shoulder or something!

Interesting puzzles. They were nicely tuned so I actually had to think a little bit.

A bit of music, even if you don't make it yourself, would really add to the feel.

I really enjoyed your game ! Simple but efficient, well-made. I found it too short but interesting ! It's actually the first sfml game that I see in the ld39 so yeah great job and congrats for your c++ game !

The game looked and played quite nice. I thought the game mechanic was a bit dry as is. At it's core, it's just a counting game. It did fit the theme very well though. I think given more time and a couple extra features it could be quite enjoyable!

If you wanted to add more mechanics then keep at it! I'm curious to see what they were.

Nice puzzle game, with a good learning !

But there is a thing, is that your enigma are too readable and linear, due to discretisation of the field and full refill, but the enigma just before the last one was interesting !

Simple idea : adding some hostile, that are moving each time the player is moving too (watch chuchu rocket) then player have to understand hostile pattern, and adapt the movement to it.

Nice work !

Nice entry, pretty impressive making a game so fast without an engine like Unity! Simple and fun, would totally play this while pretending to listen to the lecture at school. I liked that the energy bar was in discrete units to make it easy to know how many spaces you had left to move, and the sounds were a nice touch. The gameplay itself is simple and nothing crazy, but I'm sure you could add more mechanics given time.

This was a really nice entry, and like has been said, props for the SFML/C++.

The steps in skill required was well balanced, teaching and then building upon those learnt lessons. Was a nice and complete game.

Nice game. Could have used a few more mechanics to make the levels a bit harder but the graphics and sound effects were quite good. It's always nice to see other people choosing the hard mode for Ludum Dare by not using a preexisting engine. Good job.

Well. When it ended, my first thought immediatly was "Oh, is it over already? D:>"
But... not in a bad way. I wanted more of this. In it's simplicity, it's really elegant, and the level design is what makes it stand out for me.
Even if it wasn't THAT hard, the last level was impressive, so little obstacles yet so much limitations. Congrats.

I do feel you, when you say you ran out of time, we had similar... issues. But, doing this on your own, on a Jam and not using an engine? That's impressive, man!

With some more polish, and a handful more levels, this could easily be a game i'd buy in an App store to have some fun!

Very short game, but the last couple levels were fun. I could see this mechanic expanded with new tricks in later levels. Could use some kind of music of course. Biggest gripe is I'm forced to use WASD and not arrow keys. If you could set it so both work, that would be fantastic! ...I might need to integrate WASD into my own game.

Hey, pretty similar game to mine!

Clean sprites and clean interface. The art is all consistent and looks good as a result. The game IS straightforward and could use another mechanic but you already noted that. Regardless, the look and feel of the game is solid and a great foundation for a game.

Pretty short for this game, but it was still really fun. Art is nice, and the game is pretty simple in my opinion. I belive that if you keep on working on this you could make it great

Great job coding it all! it is a fully functioning game with no visible bugs or glitches and you should be proud of that achievement alone! It was far too easy as far as puzzle games go. maybe a timer and high scores could bring back the fun, or like someone else mentioned some bad guys that move with the player, or even a timing element (like a passage that opens every third step) The controls and existing mechanics were solid, but it did feel like it lacked in fun factor and challenge. would have loved more audio, music, and more graphics, the mood is kinda not there. Something like making background images for the black space can go along way with mood, as time consuming and painstaking as background art can be, however with a robot theme you could probably procedurally generate wires, circuits, and microchips pretty quick depending on your coding ability, but from what I've seen your obviously proficient. Its very polished so you are awarded points for that! Great job sticking to the theme also!

Short and simple but fun. Would sure be nice if you'd continue work on it and implement the mechanics you had in mind :)

I really like this sort of game. This felt like the first 5 levels of a 500 level iOS night mare :) in the best way. I think you have all the mechanics you need for at least 20-30 levels that get progressively harder to solve then you could add in more mechanics slowly as the levels progress. I think this game could sell decently on mobile if you were to polish it up and ad a ton more levels.

Hi, fellow SFML user. May we possibly get a Linux64 build, or a source link to try to make that?

The graphics fit to the simplicity of the game. It's a smiple path-finder-game in my opinion. The sound effects were great, and the puzzles were nice. Not too difficult, but not too hard. A nice balance I have to say!

Overall, I liked it! Well done!

I beat the game, Buddy can go get some robot beer. :D

It wasn't super fun, but the mechanics are good in away that there's still a possibility to make more interesting levels using this core loop, I think. Also, a bar or something like that for energy would be helpful.

Thanks for the game!
