Your friend left you alone at a party full of strangers. Your way out is blocked.
Find a way out while avoiding an anxiety attack!
* Standing near multiple people will give you anxiety. Same with bad text choices. *
* New conversation topics will appear with different people based on what you know. *
XBOX controller was used primarily during development, mouse and keyboard tested as well. If you press ESC during gameplay you will get an options menu with x/y sensitivity settings.
No optimization has been done, run on highest settings at your own risk!
I had a blast streaming the development of this one on twitch.tv/ursagames

@4thwallstudios Thanks a lot! I'm glad it ended up relatable. This game scenario is actually my nightmare fuel
@bovandenberg Haha that's great. One of the NPCs is actually Morty.. by accident. Just decided to give a texture a yellow shirt and then all of a sudden I couldn't unsee it.
@hakro Thank you! I'm glad the sound wasn't too irritating, I was a little worried it might be since it was really rushed.
@conorod I agree, missing instructions in game is something I've done in a lot of game jams in the past. It's hard to think of that when you are stressed for time, but I figured posters would be fitting. I really wanted to do more explaining the mechanics of the game, but time constraints kept me from making more.
Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
Thanks for the entry !
Lol. It was a very interesting game. It was nice to see a unique concept explored. I feel like it could be expanded into one of those short but profound games. Like if you had more ways of helping people, but had to work around all your anxiety to do so, or just leave the party to safety.
The art was good too. It was simple, but I feel like it fits and serves the theme and message of the game.
Very good :D
Great interpretation of the theme! The hat guy downstairs is going to give me nightmares, with his gaze following me wherever I go. The damage effects are nicely done.
Not sure if intentional, but its actually a cool juxtaposition with the player taking damage when near others, but the conversation system feels really nice to use and the party guests actually have some interesting things to say. Very solid compo entry.
First, thank you a lot for playing our game Bomber Dash during your yesterday's stream and providing us very valuable feedbacks, we are really happy you enjoyed it ! Sorry I wasn't able to attend the stream unfortunately (just one remark, you can go over one hole using the dash, so you are not supposed to be stuck so early in the game  ).
I just tried your game as well, it's really impressive for a Compo Game ! The sound effect of walking made me smile and the mood is really cool ! The characters faces are also priceless ! The only difficult thing for me was that you must read quite fast in some situations, and it's not my strong point, ahah ! But I made it to the exit though !!!
And it would have been great that we feel the anxiety from the beginning because I was kind of surprised the first time the screen got darker and I wasn't really sure of what was happening.
But once again, good work on this entry !!!
I have rated your game, but all of my feedback was captured in the stream.
You can hear my comments in the archive at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/298329090
There's definitely a lot that could have been polished with that conversation system. I think having a minimum time displayed would have helped. Also a maximum time for final conversation message, or looping back to other messages to prevent needing to back away and come back.
For those mentioning the 360 degree head turns, that's based on your current anxiety. The more anxiety you have, the more the faces will follow the player. I rather liked the effect for the game, but I didn't really mention it anywhere so it could be a surprise.
@lensflare Thanks! I thought the party anxiety idea was going to be pretty unique when I was working on it, but it turns out there were quite a few others who had the same idea :D
@jka I found the characters amusing to make, I'm glad you approve! Nice idea about the head bob, I forgot some people like that. Never been a fan of it myself, but it would have been easy to implement with a slider for how much head bob. I'm already keeping track of movement to feed into the footstep sound effects, would have probably taken like 5-10 mins to implement.
I see comments on the jumping. Jumping made *perfect* sense to me. Jump on furniture and climb around stuff to avoid people and definitely *not* look weird or socially awkward in the process.
Characters were funny and silly. And a little creepy. I didn't hate Karl. He actually helped me. I'm sure I didn't come across as weird by constantly pestering him for help.
It was a great feeling to finally get out of there and get some fresh air. Ahhh. Thanks for the entertaining experience.
I got stuck really quic. Couldnt go further anymore and couldnt find anything for npc's.
Dont even know if i can open drawers. I looked everywhere and cant do anything :(
Cant find the wallet not purse :(
Makes me thinking about this situation. You forced me to do bad things to get out of this house. Eh, true life :)
Great game!
Great job!
Amazed that something like this can be made from scratch in 48 hours! Thank you for documenting the creation process, I'm really curious to check it out and understand how it's done.
@halomegames oh no! Sorry you had those problems. I ended up taking down the WebGL build... I had to do some tweaks to try and get it to port to that and it just looked awful. I think the lighting glitches there too where sometimes there is none. Glad you ended up enjoying it afterwards! Man I wish I had the time to make the furniture intractable though, I thought about it for a split second then realized it was just out of scope.
@keyurrana Thanks! I wanted to do more posters too, but them time constraints. I realized that the movement probably did feel fast, I just have a hard time playing FPS games where you move slowly personally. I guess I should have added in a sprint / walk mode
@kapiteinkoekwous Thanks, although I couldn't seem to find my game in their vods. I looked through their queue and it looks like they played another game with the same name?
@matank Thank you! I had a lot more planned but spending 3 hours failing to come up with music ended up cutting that out. Probably a pretty rough time to watch in the vod... was running on fumes during that 27 hour stream.
I had a nice first playthrough and then I thought, "I can be faster !"
So my next plan was to try and speedrun your game to see how fast it can be beaten and currently my record is 1min 00s 10 !
I had no luck on the High Low for this run so I guess it's feasible to get below 1 min !
Keep it up mate !
@raktou Thanks! It's always surreal when a character in a game has the same name.
@cristihkj Cheers! Glad you liked it!
@maksime haha that's awesome! Did you figure out the strat to speedrun the purse? I should have added in a time played and anxiety received stat at the end game. Would have loved to add in some stuff with multiple solutions.
@alfie275 Thank you! Wasn't familiar with Blendo games, those look interesting!
@doey Thank you! I was rather happy with the effect
If you ever decide to touch this project again, I would recommend adding a way to getting through the last girl that includes not ratting on Kyle. That was hard for me to do
Loved the environment and exploring all of the characters and their dialogue. Creating a barred experience, unlocking contents of the house as you help the other peeps at the house creates a linear environmental puzzle-solving experience that felt pretty rewarding. That, and the audio n visuals were pleasing. Nice
If you don't bother take a look at our game when we focused on Graphics and visuals and see the results that we got:
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/spacelab-42
I had to "speedrun" it a second time after beating it the first time. Also, don't go left after ratting on Kyle!
Overall, the mood is fantastic, the sense of anxiety is real, and I'm going to hazard a guess it's relatable for a lot of Ludum Dare-goers - can't say as that I've been to a party, myself, and I plan to keep it that way.
In any case, very nice work!
After a while of hearing the arpeggio walk-steps, it has got its charm with the theme..
Very effective use of UI to interact with the NPCs.
Optional Suggestion:
- When the Player is in significant midst of anxiety (the speech options may change dramatically:
perhaps even changing Randomly in Rhythm (RiR - Random in Rhythm)
