Reactor Defence by Dene

[raw]
made by Dene for LD 39 (JAM)

Here is a small tower defence game for this LD! c4e8f9deac0e13bdb45e091dfcd919eb.gif

Controls: - Click Hammer to build a turret; - Click Turret to upgrade it; - Click Reactor to upgrade it.

Goal: Upgrade Reactor to the 5th state to win.

Reactor generates Energy, but turrets consume it so be careful with upgrades ;)

If you are stuck, here is a playthrough with winning strategy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv9roR4-QoI

UPD: Thanks to Baton for the cool soundtrack :)

Really fun and has a decent balance of upgrading weapons versus upgrading power supply!

Very fun! Just give us an option to reduce the music volume!

Excellent, simplified tower defense game. The power mechanic is pretty cool too, and the game ends just about when you've exhausted all the strategy. Obviously this would be cool if it got more enemy types, guns, etc, but its a pretty sweet base. I would love to play this on mobile.

Probably the most fun I've had with a LD39 game so far, and definitely the one I played longest. Graphics are really nice, simple, but expressive, though some animations would be appreciated. Gameplay is nice, simplified, but really satisfying and fun. The constant balance between upgrades and power is really nice, and something I'd like to see expanded on if you ever make another version, maybe with different turret types. Music is nice and satisfying as well, and never gets boring. I'd love to see you guys continue to work on this game.

Only suggestions is that it'd be nice to expand the hitbox for the objects a bit, as sometimes it doesn't register clicks, and a way to see how much power drain each upgrade adds would be nice as well.

Still, incredibly solid, and I really enjoyed it!

Solid entry and fits the theme very well. I really love the simplified take on the tower defense and digging the art style.

I did get to a point where the game sort of auto-played it self. I basically had two upgraded turrets in rows 2 and 3, and normal turrets in rows 1 and 4. And basically that took out all of the enemies for a good majority of the game before I was able to finish it.

Interesting gameplay, was creative, enjoyed, and the music in the background helped to take the game, congratulations, did a good job.

I played this a few times in a few sittings, and managed to beat it the second or third time round- with a HELL of a lot of restarts trying to figure out the best way to balance power and stop them from getting to the reactor. It was way more fun than i expected, honestly. Great sticking to the theme, and even though the music was so short it was really catchy for some reason. Very very nice job

I tried to beat it on my own but I kept failing. Lots of fun though!

Beautiful concept and amazing realization of TD + incremental Games. Stunning simple art and perfect sound, one of the bests from this jam.

Interesting idea. More like a puzzle than a tower defense. I was so close, but didn't won hehehe

It would be nice to know how much energy each turret is consuming, so you can plan your upgrades better.

Nice work!

Hard! Graphics where minimal, but had style to them. It was a real challenge to balance upgrading the turrets vs upgrading the generator. An addition of "batteries" that can store generated energy would be nice if you continue with this idea.

Could use a bit of explanation on the gameplay but it is a neat little tower defense type game.

A solid TD with a good balance. The first game in this jam I played to the end. A victory was unexpected, I thought it would be longer. Didn't have to make a single 1400 upgrade. Also make hitboxes bigger next time.

a fun game! nicely balanced, nothing really felt unfair. the graphics are simple, but i like the style. i like that its a different take on a classic tower defense game.

This was really fun. I think this is the most immersed I've been in solving an LD39 game yet. And I absolutely love the music :) Some really great game design/balancing here.

My only advice would be to include a tutorial, or at least show where the turret+reactors are, and describe how you earn money (still not sure); I was confused in the beginning about those. Overall, really fun :D High marks on Fun!

Great ideas. It was really fun.
I feel like upgrade turret is a trap. Upgrade to much will end up game over.

I think it would have made a huge difference if you animated the characters running towards you. It would have felt like more of an attack. The visuals and music are pretty good though. Well done.

Good stuff. The mechanics were new and interesting, I was confused initially why the turrets stopped shooting before looking at the comment section. Turns out the gameplay was very balanced after all!
