[raw]
made by Cerebral Bore for LD 43 (JAM)

It’s war against Aliens. Sadly your ship is empty of ammo. You only have an experimental bomb on your board. Only a few soldiers remain to complete this suicide mission to destroy the Mothership. The last hope for humanity is your sacrifices.

Try to evade all defences and take your ship to the Core.

Even if you can't reach the core, your sacrifice can help clear the way for the next pilot!

Good Luck !!

A nice game.
There are some bugs / Glitches with the text in the main menu.

But the game in general was fun, nice textboxes, a solid music and a ton of graphics.

Well Done

Really neat idea. I like the dialog happening. Maybe could have moved slightly faster to feel more challenging. Nice job! :D

A thousand of Thank you for your feed back. We did our best during this jam and it was very difficult because we were only two : one developer and one graphic artist.
@cannedtuna nice that you saw the references. We wanted a touch of humor in this game.

The pacing was a bit off I think. Text boxes opened/closed way too slowly, and in general everything moved a lot slower than I'd expect for a shmup.

Interesting to remove the shooting half of the equation, but there weren't enough bullets/things to dodge to really offer up much of a threat, so it wasn't super engaging to me. That said, balancing shmups in LD is dang near impossible.

Overall interesting idea with solid execution, but could likely benefit from some minor tweaks to really make it shine.

Great job. Loved the references and the game play was challenging but not insane like some bullet hells. Only suggestion would be that when flying through the space(stars) background. It looks a little odd that it doesn't move while the rest of the terrain does. Some parallaxing on that would make it all come together form me. I really enjoyed it.

@FireSlash: YES shoot'em up was a difficult challenge in my opinion

@vimlark: parallax was too consequent for us in 72H. Nevertheless we would have liked implement it

I would made the background moving to get the feeling of going forward but otherwise it's a nice little game! :)

The music was pretty great!

Gameplay was simple enough to get an immediate grasp of. When the level stopped moving in the first level I was a little freaked out :D I didn't expect it to do that.

Agree with the above comment about the text boxes. It's usually a good idea to make them open and go away fast, so they don't block the view for too long.

Nice visuals, except some of the guns have a certain... *phalic quality* to them, but that might be as inteded. How Am I the first to mention that? Anyway, gameplay is nice, though a lot could be sped up IMO (the ship, the textboxem and enemies). The enemy clear on death is a cool touch.

@secretpocketcat: ...yes with hindsight it's very phalic. Nevertheless it was not our intention. We only wanted to create a design inspired by torpedo weapon

Cool game! Fun playing! And yes, I did also see the phallic symbols when I look at the screenshots you have. :eggplant: I had to look closer to make sure. =) As said before, the game was a bit "easy" and could have progressed faster. Congrats on a nice entry!

Talk about your one hit KOs but with a purpose. I liked the little story behind it and that each pilot had personality to them. It was a bit jarring the change in movement from things coming at you, then feeling like you are stationary, to then a stage appearing, to then the stage stopping.

It would be nice if the stars BG had a parallax effect to them, an since I cannot control how fast I move forward, that the stages were always 100% moving so that it would feel like I'm in some sort of a rocket moving towards my target with perhaps SPACE bar serving like a little boost so I can control the pace of the game that way.

Still, nicely done.

Very funny game.I enjoyed the textboxes, graphics and lovely sound. Little con for me was the static background. Moving one could make a huge difference. If the game was faster, than I couldnt focus on the text in the boxes, so speed is ok for me. Good job guys!:)

Very good entry.
Sacrifice theme was a bit missing for me since i've done it with one pilot. But after reading the comments i understand now.
Also i wish there was some sort of a parallax in the game. It was a frustrating experience that things moved on you rather that the feeling you are flying towards them.
Otherwise it was nice and cool.
Keep up the good work!

Nice atmosphere. I disliked the complete restart thing that happened when you ran out of characters, but nevertheless, I made it to the end. Strange that the end screen says 'Game Over', and whilst you technically suicided, that was the goal so technically, victory? I also think that the static starry background could have been improved with maybe even just the smallest amount of motion, just to show that you are moving, like the other structures. Awesome game

@prodigalson @prema @jevgeni-orehhov @justcamh .....@everybody

-Firstly Thank you for all your constructive comments
-Then: we wanted to implement a nice effect of parallax indeed. Nevertheless we were only two persons for that jam. So we had to make sacrifices (lol mise en abîme^^)
-Other sacrifices: a dash with artisitic effects ; a mecha for the 2nd level that chase you ; and last but not least: some sprites I created are not insered (*sob *sob)

Nice job. Art and sound were great, although the scrolling and movement were a bit choppy for me. I really liked having the different pilots, although it would have been cool if the ships were different in some way, either in mechanics or just in looks, to drive the point home.

You managed to fit the theme with a classic gameplay mechanic, the game is well polished, the art is coherent. Nothing much to say, you did a great job! With this level of skill you should try to go for a more challenging choice next time, when you are good at something, try something harder to become even better ;-) I look forward to see your future games!

I love the 80s vibe here, and the messages of the kamikaze pilots sold the theme well. The difficulty ramp was nice and steep (although perhaps a little too easy at the beginning, and with no checkpoints/live unforgiving in the final stage) and I appreciated how you focused on simple controls rather than trying to add more features (i.e shooting). One thing I'd suggest is using a particle system to great the feeling of speed- a few times I didn't feel like much of a rocket! Good work.

This had a very simple idea but it was done really well. There's a lot of charm and polish that went into it which makes it more interesting than a lot of other entries. I loved the references (even though I didn't get many of them). Most of my issues have already been said before: parallax scrolling would be nice, and maybe some other mechanics or things the player can do to spice up the gameplay. Nice job though, I enjoyed this a lot.

This is great. Everything here was executed beautifully. However, I do have some minor feedback:

- I cleared the last level in one try but gave up on the other levels after getting killed twice by my own impatience. The first two levels weren't challenging enough (causing me to accidentally seek my own death). For players like me, a boost button would be a nice feature.
- Parallax scrolling stars (or a multi-layer scrolling background in general) would really add to the feeling of movement. At some of the resting parts of the levels, it really shows that the background isn't moving at all, which is a bit uncanny but not bothersome.

Very well made entry nevertheless

Good, fun game, and fits the theme! I think the star background should have scrolled a little bit (in the first level), since it wasn't clear that the player was moving.

I had fun playing the game and I was a bit impatient because I didn't manage to complete all the levels. I think the difficulty is good but maybe having a checkpoint would be helpful so you don't have to restart at the slow part again.

The graphics and music was really cool. Simple sound effects but rewarding when you complete a level.

Good job!

A super cool and a very well made game. I love the music and graphics in this game. And I especially love the 80's/early 90's wipe the game has, and that especially because it fits the game idea very well. Overall a very good LD game. Well done.

Nice horrizontal scroller, feel like a "avoid'em'up" game XD I liked to be a missile, that makes sense with the theme. I also liked the famous game characters quotes, but it hides a little bit the screen :) I had to restart a few times to beat all levels in a row but that was fun, even if the end was a bit hard and sometimes random  some idea:maybe some bonus to have some satellites around the missile, some shield ? Good job! cheers

Very nice entry! Great visuals, nice idea, gameplay is fun and challenging enough! Though I agree that "coin-op" style difficulty is very artificial and not really pleasant in modern game design. I liked the game very much though! Keep it up!

cool game. i liked how its a schmup without any shooting, just dodging.

its kind of evil tho how the dialogue pops up right when you need to manuever around a wall, distracting you into hitting it

the random character references are cool.

the limited number of lives is a lame mechanic from an archaic era.

overall its a cool concept done well

@sorlok @linus @najmm @knarf @honey @shieldgenerator7 : T.H.A.N.K__Y.O.U!!!!!! and my bad for the parallax> it was too late for implement it at the end of the 3days. That bothered the developper and me too.

Post mortem facts @everybody: As you could see the coin-op style was voluntary added to fit with the sacrifice theme, and with the story we created for the game. We are not so cruel normaly :smirk:
