Hamster DRUMA by shide

[raw]
made by shide for LD 43 (JAM)

logosmall512.png

You play as a hamster possessed by the evil drum.
The point of your existence itself from now on is to bring your peers to safety, guiding them through the dangers of this unpleasant world with the power of SICK BEATS.
Why? For the glory of Satan, of course!

Controls

WASD - control your drummer
Left and Right Mouse Buttons - beat the drum

The faster you click the faster they move. Use it sparingly though. Possessed drums have to eat too. Keep your energy in check and replenish it on the altar, or your mates will get lazy and slow.

You have to bring several hamsters to an end. Try not to kill them all at once.

Also enjoy, leave a comment and spread the word of upcoming doom!!

Notes about "How is it possible in 72 hours?"

We are participating each time since 28th LD so we have a lot of experience. Also during all LDs, we built up a library of useful things like scripts and shaders etc that helps to save time during Jam.

We took some 3D environmental props like gates and some walls (and reskinned them to match the look) from our previous unpublished LD#36 game called Guy's Dungeon.

This time we also had a bunch of people involved in creation: a game-designer, a level-designer, a 3D artist, a material designer, 1.5 programmers, and a "sound designer".

Post LD enhancements: - Added Intro level to better introduce mechanics - Added pause menu and audio settings - Builds for Linux and MacOS

Other than that the game is made in 72 hours.

This is the Ludum Dare best game I played so far, it relates to the theme very well, and the mechanics were designed well!

Wow! This games graphics are very good, and the gameplay is very nice! A problem though, I'm not sure if it's just because of my computer lagging, but the input has a lot of lag.

Great game! Love the cute graphics. And because the hamsters are so cute, it felt really pitiful if I lost some of them by sacrificing or accidents.

Waaat, in 3 days? Impossible! :D That is the most polished game I've seen on Ludum Dare so far!

This game is absolutely amazing, really difficult to believe it was done in under 72 hours.
From sound effects to animations this game is exceptionally well done.

Game looks fantastic! At times it was difficult for me to see if I was affecting the hamsters with the drumming, so I didn't always seem to get them to follow where I thought they should be going. Maybe some kind of visual thing on the hamsters that are affected? If there already is one, I'm sorry, I had to play with medium graphics.

Wow, a full intro sequence! This was super unique, clearly you guys have a lot of experience working with 3D environments which is really cool to see. It definitely took me a bit to figure out how to best direct the hamsters but I'm not sure that's so much a criticism as much of part of the experience. I guess more direct visual feedback would be nice as mentioned.

Nice job!

This is a very strong entry! The concept is cool and the game is exceptionally polished as others have noted.

My initial intuition was to tap the drums in a constant beat, but once I worked out that two quick taps were enough to make the hamsters run rapidly to a position the game got a lot easier, though it did lose some of the drummer feel. Personally I'm partial to rhythm games, so I'd love to see what you could do with this concept by mixing in more traditional rhythm elements.

Overall this was an interesting and fun experience. Great work!

Super polished! Found it a little hard to control the "Critters", and understanding exactly what I was supposed to do was a little cryptic. But great look to it, and I great modelling!
