Footprints by monetai
Try to stay alive, ennemies are everywhere and every missed shoot shrunk the arena!! It was originaly a compo entry but I oversleeped a little =D
The game is playable with WASD + mouse, for other keyboard layout users you can change controls mapping in the config box before launching the game.
Ha! be carefull of the whales!

Maybe I'm really bad (that's possible) but i found it really hard. My Highscore was only about 1 minutes but I died way earlier most of the time. It was a bit frustrating because I really wanted to stay longer in this weird place! (The random color option was a really good idea!)
The game is very unforgiving though, the balloons can come from behind fast, and kill you very quickly.
I think it would more forgiving if touching a balloon also shrunk the arena size.
The whales were really good for mood, and changing the colours is a really nice extra feature.
Glad I got a chance to play your game!
@zachary-granger The lighting is just a really simple shader trick, the mesh color is a lerp between 2 color (the far color and the near color) based on the distance from a point ( (0,0,0) in that case ) I've added the source if you want to see. The shrunk on touch is a really nice idea!! I tried to warn the player of ennemies positions with sound but I didn't have the time to do it properly.
It's a little too hard for me tough, my best time is 1 minutes x)
I don't really understand sometimes why I lose, maybe an enemy behind me (and the border of the map is not clear, I fell a lot)
The random color is a cool idea and a nice touch!
Good work!
I couldn't get much over a minute, because apparently I stink. You stink for making a game where accuracy counts a ton and then not giving us a crosshair
It has maybe not such much playable content in it like in other games here because you run only in circles like in these call of duty zombie mode games and shoot enemies but it reaches a lot of fascination through his simplictic style, atmosphere and soundscape. Make the player wonder about the world is a the best plus for a game.
These whales were my first highlight. Their first appearance drives me to play the game longer and longer only because I wanted to see and hear them.
The slow shrinking room was also good because it gives the player the time to enjoy the surrounding whithout a constant fear of a fast and near end.
And than I took my headphones and I was surprised again. I heard footprints. That was a highlight for me too. And I like it that you have the option to change the colors in the menu. This gives the player a specific amount of control about the upcoming experience.
I've created in this LD an atmospheric experience too but I think yours is better than my. Simpler and more easier to read (in gameplay aspect). Well done. Thank you for this and keep doing such cool games. :D
Anyways I found that the fog could be reset by pressing Escape. And does it reset correctly after death? I felt like it's much farther if I went to the main menu first.
***Edit :***
After playing again a couple of times I also found that I didn't even need to move as the enemies won't kill me if I just stay still. Combined with the aforementioned Escape exploit, I became kinda invincible.
Oh and I realized that I could also move on the lower ground, not just the center pedestal. Bummer. Those majestic whales though...
