The resource management was good, but it wasn't hard to survive just by making sure there was no deficit. The AI players were there, I saw them buying and selling in the shop, and the backstories for them were impressive, but this game would have been so much better if there were some interactions between players.
First time I opened the game, I clicked some buttons and it told me I won because the AI had run out of money. I have since noticed that the land count goes down when you buy a farm. But I don't know how many farms I have. Or the resources of my opponent. Or why would I need to interact with the market - things just go down to 0 price eventually, except land.

Those factions you list are nowhere to be seen.

If you start the game and spam the end turn button, your grain goes into negative numbers but you don't lose. I haven't managed to lose.

This game desperately needs a manual. I still doubt their existence even now, because the market seems to just be changing a bit each turn, without any signs of AI planning behind that. The core gameplay was there although nothing was really shown and explained. I had to read the description of the game and even then it made not much sense. I enjoyed the whole management of your resources thing, however I never really felt like I was under any pressure or urgency. I feel this game could definitely be further developed, with better graphics, audio, and variety. If you develop the core ideas and core gameplay (you have the basics of it down) it wouldn't be too hard and would be quite fun.
["ld40/55926-d8fdc2336bd3cb41539ede3032157122.png
"g_site2_node_id":"55926
The goal of the game is to outlast an AI opponent. You can also research a certain building, increasing it's effectiveness.

(This is my first time working on a large scale project with AI, so sorry if there are any bugs.)

Factions:

The Holy Vanguards
This religious group of people believe that their land, and their land only, is sacred. They feel like all other factions are satanists and will destroy their land if they give it to anyone. From their perspective they feel as if technology is Satan's tool to control the other, once pure factions. They believe if they rid technology of this world, Satan’s influence will disappear. They will not sell their land and they will not buy any later game technology. They will buy other’s land to ‘purify’ it.

The Lightning Frontier
This is the newest faction before you came along. They were the remaining members of the Coldguard before the new government took over. They escaped with a little amount of land and started out their nation. They expanded quickly feeding off of the needs of the coldguard in return for land. The warlords want to watch the new Coldguard burn, and the way they will do it will be by praying off the week. They are very power hungry and want land. They will feed off of the coldguard if they are both present in the same game. They won't research technologies as quickly as other groups.

The Coldguard
This group of warlords has destroyed their economy after war, and war. They have outstretched their reach and now have an excess amount of land with little supplies. Their economy is in ruins as their people are desperate. After the harsh winter these people felt the need for some change. A new government took over and now are fixing the problems. They have a lot of land and are willing to sell it for anything. After they sell most of their land they start selling their abundance of resources. At times they sell a little too much, but they need it to boost their economy. They start off with access with resources very easily and already have mines to make extra. They won't start researching new technologies until all of their extra land is sold.

The Burning Legacy
This was once the greatest faction in the world, but after years and years it just couldn’t keep up. Slowly this faction fell from being the greatest in the world to a shell of its former self. One of the causes for this downfall was it creating the trade commission that transformed into the ICA. The ICA slowly took land from this faction until it was not needed anymore. This faction was nicknamed the Burning Legacy which has now been accepted as the faction’s real name. Most of the resources this once great faction had were spent during their downfall. They have a huge population and are okay with researching new technologies. They also have little resources.

Vengeance of Angels
A religious group of people who was once part of the holy vanguard broke away because of conflicting ideals. These people didn’t believe everyone else was a satanist, but hated the Silver Talon because they genetically modify creatures, going against what god made them to be like.. The Vengeance of Angels quickly built themselves up from the ground. They got lucky and found a huge deposit of resources which quickly made them more powerful than the Holy Vanguards. They know that if they want to beat the Silver Talon they need to research themselves so they continue on with that. They have no disadvantages and they start off with extra resources.

International Coinage Alliance
This once trade commission, is now the richest group of people in the world. They started off small, but they gained so much money that they overthrew a government. They don’t really count as a country, but they are still a forced to be reckoned with. Most of the money they had was lost creating their vast empire. They also lost a lot when their inflation went up when they printed too much money for their greedy needs. Now, they have learned from their mistakes and wants to become the strongest faction in the world. They have less of a population size, and they don’t feed them. This means that they don’t need as much food for their country. If you can pay them enough they might be blind to what they are giving away.

The Silver Talon
This group of scientist were once employed by the ICA (International Coinage Alliance) left their job to start genetically researching livestock. With their research progressing they gained a large abundance of livestock. At first they didn’t really use much of the livestock, but after a while they controlled the largest supply of livestock in the world. Having control over this factor in the market they put the livestock at high prices and grew quickly because of it. They have a lot of livestock, and they put it for a high price having the majority of it. They look towards researching as their primary goal, and use most of their resources doing it.

16814
///content/ea1/4/z/ca4a.png","grade-06-out":"1","grade-07-out":"1","grade-08-out":"1
1","link-01":"https://grover.itch.io/battle-at-the-frontier","link-01-tag":"42337
/events/ludum-dare/40/battle-on-the-frontier
1,5,9,49883
{"grade-01":13,"grade-02":13,"grade-03":13,"grade-04":13,"grade-05":13
"grade-01-average":2.364,"grade-02-average":2.227,"grade-03-average":2.591,"grade-04-average":2.273,"grade-05-average":1.909
The goal of the game is to outlast an AI opponent.
