Fight Cart by terryg

made by terryg for LD 40 (COMPO)

It's Black Friday and everything is gone. All that is left already in other people's carts. But that's ok. Its a free for all! Get all the items in your thinking bubble and make it to the door. Be careful, if other shoppers have everything in their wish list, and make it to the door before you, you lose.

Busy day shopping, and you are weak. The more items you have in your cart the harder it is to take more items from other carts. This weakness is visible by the size of the shopper. You can lure a shopper who are trying to take your stuff into another shopper. They will duke it out and possibly become weaker.

I like it! It's a quick little game that fits the theme perfectly.

Fits the theme perfectly, and real life too ... shopping is exhausting.

It took me a while to figure out how to fight the other shoppers, and whether red or blue meant that I had the shape I was looking for already. Also, the sudden camera shift when somebody gets all the gifts was jarring. Still, it was overall enjoyable and I played all the way through to when I won!

I didn't really understand the fighting mechanic. Did clicking on them have any effect? The objective was clear, get the shapes from the list. An idea to make a funny game even funnier could be to have the shoppers yell at each other. Imo opinion, needs some polish, but keep it up

Thanks for the feedback mess110. The fighting happens when one has something the other wants. Then whoever is "bigger" (i.e. has the least items in his cart) wins.

So, this asshole has the square that I want in his cart. How do I get it? Whenever we fight, we just switch the four-squares-thing back and forth, and nothing else happens. Can't really progress.

Hi @zinkler. You need to have him follow you to another shopper who has what he wants. Then when they duke it out, if he wins then he will be weak enough for you to take him on to get the square.

Don't quite understand the fighting mechanic much but I really like the game, had fun time while playing it.

Like the other commenters, I didn't understand how to fight, I kept going towards them, clicking, they fight, and seemed like a random result to me. Maybe have some better feedback about that? Because I knew I had to get those shapes but ended up losing what I had most of the time.

The fighting animations were derpy and funny, and match the music.

The text in game needs to be put on top of the game, because with the characters walking in front of it it was difficult to read (I know it's the same text you put on the description, but still).

It's an interesting concept, fits nicely the theme and is fun, so good work :)

Thanks @saramartins. Yeah. The fight is won by having fewer things in your cart vs the shopper you are fighting. If he has more, then you will win. The trick is to get a shopper to chase you and have them run into another shopper and after they fight, then hopefully the winner will have more items and thus be weaker. When I came up with the idea I didn't think it would be this hard, but clearly it is not intuitive. I made the shoppers smaller when they are weaker but, still it is not obvious. It was my first time going solo so I learned a lot. Thanks for playing!!

Yeah. And the text was done an hour before submission and I didn't have much time. I'll work on that for next time.
