Amitosis by Pixel Maniacs

[raw]
made by Pixel Maniacs for LD 40 (JAM)

unnamed.png

Amitosis is set in the time before animals and plants. You are one of the first cells living on earth, trying to take over the primeval soup and conqueror the world.

You and your rival organism both have the superpower of cell division. When you get shot you and all you clones divide their cells and form perfect clones with the goal to confuse and distract. If a clone gets shot, they just dissolve.

Be careful because the more clones you have the worse it is to identify yourself. The more clones the enemy has the harder it is to hit the primal overlord controlling the horde. On the other hand, the more the merrier, right?

How to play:

  • Select if you got a friend with you, or want to play alone against the AI, "show me" is just a bot battle
  • Try to figure out which cell you are controlling, jumping helps a lot!
  • Collect pewpews and throw them at your opponent.
  • Shoot your opponent's main character 6 times to win.
  • If your opponent shoots your main character 6 times you lose.
  • Beware of to many clones. They will duplicate, too!

Controls took some getting used to, but it ended up being a fun little arena game.

Very well made. It screams quality. The music is fantastic, and the artwork is very well designed.
I have no problems with it other than that damn shift key binding.

This is amazing! The graphics are fantastic and the characters are so, so charming - it took a couple tries to figure out, but once I did, I had a great time. Really impressive work on this.

The style is rad, but I'm having a hard time figuring out whom I control. I found that guy, but when it's many of him, I'm confused again.

I love the visual art and the music. I did play alone so it is a little hard to judge the gameplay, but it is definatly an interesting take on the theme :)

Wow! Nice use of the jam theme. It's quite difficult to understand what's happening at first, but as soon as you get it the game gets really fun and enjoyable! This is my first jam and i'm actually really impressed with the quality of soundtracks most of the games i've seen had, and this one is no exeption. It reminds me of LocoRoco soundtrack. Design of the characters, soundeffects and everything else just makes me smile. Great work, guys.

Excellent entry. It took a minute for me to figure out what was going on but once I did I was able to play fairly intuitively, I did not master the shot mechanic.

Thank you for letting me play this on stream! It was very enjoyable, original idea and good that you implemented decent AI to make the game enjoyable even when playing on your own. Good visuals and audio. I think maybe there's a risk people will say the theme wasn't too strong, as it doesn't seem bad to have more distracting cell splits. I can definitely see the influence of the theme on the game though.

Very nice graphics. The sounds were good too! I tried it multiplayer, but we keep accidentally hitting browser shortcuts since the controls use the ctrl button.

Hey @Pixel-Manicas!

we played your entry in multiplayer and singleplayer-mode and I have to say... it's pretty awesome!
The idea and the execution is absolutely creative and unique. Definitely never played something like this before.

You hit the theme perfectly and I mean really just perfect 10/10. But at this point I found the only complication with this game, my experience was as follows:
I wachted some gameplay and I liked it, but honestly I was confused what's going on. So I watched the tutorial and I was still confused. It took me about 2-3 rounds to understand what I'm doing in this game. Okay the blame is on my side too, because I read your "how to play" afterwards. I would recommend to make the tutorial a little more understandable, with things like colored main characters and projectiles for each player.
But! This was just a reeaaally minor problem on a such a great jam game.

As I mentioned before the game is outstanding creative in each way.
The gameplay itself was really cool to play after I got it.
It's simple and fun, that's all you want and need from a jam game. Props on that.
And it's definitely a great joy in multiplayer, thank you for implementing that!

The graphics were just beautiful and I love the background design with it's bouncing movement. The models, FX, textures and everything is absolutly fantastically polished. The colors were well chosen and I can say just one screenshot of the game would be enough to fall in love with it (at least it worked for me). Oh and the character design is sooo cute!

The audio was in a nice harmony with the mechanics and the design.
It was absolutely professional and greatly supported the humor.
And somehow I can't stop hearing it, that how it should be! ^^

Maybe I repeat myself but: Awesome job! I can certainly see a feature for this game. Maybe with things like upgrades for the pewpews(xD) or further evolutions of the player in a match.

Boy that went a bit more text than I expected. Well anyways, thank you making this and keep up the great work!

I played and loved the game already during Ludum Dare (we developed our game in the rooms of Pixel Maniacs as a separate team, thanks again Ben for the invitation ) - it was a different experience back than, without the final assets...

Congrats to you and your team, this is an amazing job - it also shows that you know how to polish a game. The assets are plain awesome! And it's definitely one of the most innovative games I've played for this LD's theme!
