Hallway Creep by slunkey

[raw]
made by slunkey for LD 39 (COMPO)

You have stumbled upon a dark hallway with seemingly no way out. You only have a hand cranked flashlight with you to illuminate your way through the darkness. But you hear some noises...what is it??

Creeping toward you from the darkness are green little monsters. You shine your flashlight at them and they seem to be bothered by it!

Unfortunately, you must keep your flashlight charged to stay a live.

Cotnrols: * Press 'z' and '\' consecutively to charge the flashlight * Mouse movement reveals darkened areas

Hints: * Point mouse at creeps to diminish them after exposed to your light long enough

Not bad, I like how the creeps feel like they are actually moving down a hallway getting bigger, and the light which is really nice and round when it's on the edge of the screen, is really diffuse as it gets to the back of the tunnel! well done :)

Would be nice to be able to set of use a different set of keys, I use a UK layout keyboard, but my windows is US layout, so looking for the / was difficult (sounds silly but I always struggle with which slash is which)

Cool concept, needed some indication of how much charge your flashlight had but other than that good job.

Its a good concept but seems a bit bare bones! I think the game could benefit heavily from some other management as flashlight charge didn't seem to be a big difficulty.

As mentioned above, an indication of flashlight charge would be helpful to ensure that I'm doing it right.

Now. I have big hands and have played guitar for years. I can just about do this for a little while. I would bet that my girlfriend would be incapable of pressing those keys. I don't know what your objective was, but that's something to think about.

Some music and an objective of some kind would really help. Even a scoring system for number of monsters killed. Perhaps also some kind of indication that they are being damaged. Basically, the game needs more feedback mechanisms.

Good start to a weird mechanic. Now I need to go massage my hand for a bit.

Hm, don't know, I tried all the slashes of my keybord with z and nothing worked. :(

The game needs a lot of work. Mostly ways to tell the players how they are doing, what is going on etc. It's a shame that the game wasn't developed further, because the concept is neat.

I think the idea behind the game is nice, as far as I could observe it, but I had problems with the charging part too, even after changing my keyboard layout from german to US.

It's really nice to see someone else that made their game from scratch in C++ :). Anyway, it was a pretty good idea, I liked the pseudo 3D. We do kinda need a power bar though, also I was spamming z and \ very fast, but my flashlight still turned off, so some indication of the progress that the key pressing is doing would be helpful. Anyway, happy programming :)

Dark game =) the Game lacks responsiveness: reaction creeps on the light, the slow light off and etc.
