Carchery by Stefan Richings

[raw]
made by Stefan Richings for LD 41 (JAM)

Description

Throw cars off of a ramp and boost into the giant target! Closer into the middle for a higher score. Five attempts per round!

Went a little loose with the theme in the end but got something out there so there's that! There are some Unity related WebGL bugs I came across late in the day and had to try and hack my way around them so the WebGL build may be a little sketchy in places. Trying to get a Standalone version but it may have to wait until after the Jam ends as it's taking me a while to Switch Platform.

Happy with some parts of this, not so happy with others but it was a fun experience to make the game.

Controls

Forward / Spin Forward in Air -> W or Up Arrow

Back / Spin Backward in Air -> S or Down Arrow

Left / Twist Left in Air -> A or Left Arrow

Right / Twist Right in Air -> D or Right Arrow

Boost -> Spacebar

Even though the game is super difficult, it is still really to play. And both the graphics and the music is really good.

I like the theme implementation! Funny game, I was able to arrive the center of the bullseye in 4 attemps!

At first I thought the controls were a tad unforgiving but as time went on I found it really fun and engaging. I found myself playing it longer than I thought I had.

It took me a while to hit that target! It's hard to control that car and that's perfect for a game like this. Good job!

God I'm so bad at this! I even managed to go far enough backward to make the target very very tiny in the distance :D. But I kept playing so I think it's quite obvious I had fun :). And I was genuinely happy when I (totally by chance) hit the center ;).

Very nice job!

an interesting idea, I would have liked it more if the car would jump like an arrow, otherwise a good game

great idea and take on the theme, and fun boosting my car off the ramp regardless of missing the target half the time haha, nice work! :sunglasses:

I'm really glad I found this game by randomly scrolling through the games list and then I saw the name "Carchery" and I just had to play it. Brilliant concept, haha.

The difficulty was quite well balanced I think. I developed a pretty good strategy to hit the middle. Sometimes the car rotated so I would hit with the side of the car and not the front, I think it's fair that you don't get points if you don't hit with the front of the car.

I had a lot of fun with this, the mechanics worked good and it's one of the most unique games I've seen in this Ludum Dare. Great job!

Reminds of good old days of Flatout :)
Well done, with a bit more of a spectacle and showmanship that the those games had this could be a blast :)

Give mine a look, review it and let me know what you think :)
