Terra Tides by CameronJSamuels

[raw]
made by CameronJSamuels for LD 42 (JAM)

After waking up past evacuations, you realize the island you live on is flooding... fast! You must work hard to get enough resources in order to build a boat and escape without harm.

How to play

The island will be completely flooded after 8 days. Each day, you can collect resources 5 times. Click the icons on the map to collect resources. After you have collected enough resources, you can build a raft to get off the island.

Hey. Nice idea! Some thoughts I had about the game without a real order:

The amount of the resources you could gather at ones was too random I think. You didn't have any interactions between the resources right? Because I think it would have been nice if it weren't possible at all to try to build a boat with one missing (for example you can't build it without at least one rope...) The graphics were really cute! But I really don't like the ending screen's color... And if you click on next turn after the 8th round it would have been nice to have some kind of message that you drown with the island instead of just a blank screen. An interaction of the flood and the resources might also have been nice (e.g. you cant get woods at the last days because the forest is flooded).

First, I just want to say that the artwork for this game (especially the title screen) is great; better than anything I could ever make that's for sure. It's definitely your strongest element.

That being said I think the gameplay could use some improvement. There is no clear way for the player to strategize besides just grabbing an equal amount of resources and leaving on the last day. Given more time to fully flesh this out, I think your main priority should be to add multiple playing styles as well as an incentive to leave before day 8 (like maybe your likelihood to survive goes down over time) because otherwise there's no reason to not do the strategy I stated earlier.

Also, I'm sure you ran out of time but always make sure there is a scene management flow because when you reach the end of the game there is no way to go back to the main menu.
