Advanced Mitosis by Endurion

[raw]
made by Endurion for LD 38 (COMPO)

Advanced Mitosis is a little game about survival in a small world. You're an amoeba and subject to several experiments. Your goal is to survive! Eat food pellets, grow stronger, absorb enemies and pass by obstacles.

Use cursor keys to move, R to retry a stage. Also, as a cheat there's N to jump to the next stage.

Nice game little! The sound looks like we are in a church ^^
The idea is nice! But the movement is too slow. It make the level too long ...

Epic music and also some interesting puzzles. I almost quitted at the puzzle where you cannot eat to much (before I figured it out).

I love the innovation brought to the "Fishy" style game. You added some great features to that genre. Some critiques:
- I had to give up on the "Engagement" level, it was too slow to keep repeating.
- You move faster going diagonally.
- The movement sound effect started to get annoying.

The music is weird. I love it.

I think you're moving a bit too slow. Or rather - the levels are a bit too big. You're moving around a long time without anything happening, which makes it less engaging.

The puzzle design themselves are really good though. I had a problem in the first level with the giant red blob that a lot of pellets spawned right next to him, so I couldn't get them, but otherwise it seemed very fair.

Overall nice little game. Good job!

Loved that music! I liked the mechanics, and thought the art was cute.

Just two things I'd note: One, the enemies seem to have trouble pathing around walls. I know pathfinding can be hard to implement in such a short amount of time, but if you want to keep working on this, definetly try that! Two, the difficulty progression seems a bit out of order to me, mess with that and see what works best!

Good job!!

Really hard to pick up for me.
Maybe its just a concept thing, but its polished and the graphics are great.
Btw, I cant hear the music for some reason.

Nice job, puzzles were great. I could not hear the music either (@supermsp10), but this has been happening for probably 2 out of every 6 or so games I play, so I don't know. Nice work on this game :)

I really loved the game. The only bad side was that the game got repetitive. Great work on the concept though <3

Good concept, just a few improvements which have been proposed in some of the comments above (@multitudes22,@campbell,@zelos). My advice would be to stick to the art style you chose for the bacteria. That kind of hand drawn animation, the rough lines, the detail simply in black could have been used on the environment too, which would tie together the whole thing pretty nicely

Interesting and some great puzzles, especially when you had to "herd" the other blobs to eat some of the pellets.

Nice concept @endurion!

I really liked the puzzles. The level with the two amoebas in the upper corners and the maximum size is quite hard!
The thing I like at most is eating the food from another amoeba before it can reach it
I agree with @multitudes22 that a pathfinding system would be a great improvment, keep working the game is worth it

Summary a really good job!

I think you have some very interesting levels, and then you have "Encagement" which was a drag, I just skipped it. I don't know why, but it felt good to eat my enemies. Kuddos for the level design and different idea. Oh, and finishing the compo! Nice job!

i really like it, i cant pass the level with the multiple hallways and the 2 red amoebas on the top!, i think i have an idea how to pass but i can't accomplish it,the background music didn't quite make the game... nice entry!

This was well done. Hopefully you are planning to work on this more because I can only imagine some of the features and puzzles you might add such as you know mitosis, I feel like mechanics surrounding that would work real well with levels like encagement in mind.

Other than that I would definitely agree that something needs to be done about the size of the level, your speed, or more engaging obstacles because right now the levels do drag on.

Good job though, I enjoyed it!

Nice work. I think this is the first "eat to grow" style game in this Ludum Dare I've played! I really like the sounds and the animations, even if they're very simple. They fit the game very well. It felt a little repetitive sometimes. Maybe some kind of faster movement option like a dash, or some variation to the movement would have kept things more engaging. That said, some of the levels with multiple enemies, and the level "engagement" were very cool. The music was also very interesting and well done. I also just like the overall idea a lot. I enjoyed trying to "steal away" food from enemies so I could get bigger than them. Great job!

Pretty interesting mechanics there, the puzzles were fun to play! Your game might be lacking better movement mechanics since solving puzzles got the movement to be pretty linear at times, maybe some acceleration/slipping might've made the game a little spicier in terms of skill and not only pathfinding. Solid entry nonetheless, good job!

I liked the balance between puzzles and dashing towards the pellets to collect them before the other amoebas :-) With a few improvements to the graphics this could easily be a great game for the mobile platform.

Excellent game! Had a really good time playing. I loved how you explored the implications of the growing mechanic to produce interesting puzzles mixed with faster paced gameplay. Really good job.

Nice idea, the choir and the movement sound didn't really go together. The idea has lots of potential, though! If you want to check out our game, here is the link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/42-mikronikus

Wow, I was super facinated once I found that this is a puzzle like game. The Engagement level was just perfect. Sounds were on point. The only thing left to do would be better graphics, but you already know that.

Good job overall on the puzzle design. There were a couple of nice surprises in this one - I especially liked the level where you had to make the enemies eat the food in order to win. The last level seemed more like luck, though. I hope you take this one further, I think there would be nearly endless possibilities for puzzles for this one.

Good concept and the level design is great, but it's maybe a little bit slow and lacking of feedbacks.

Good job !

What a great little game! I really liked all the different puzzles - made me laugh when I got to fat to get through the doorways! The music is awesome - strange choice - but awesome! I would definitively play this again and again! High marks from me :-)

The puzzles were really well-designed. You were able to get a lot of variety out of a couple of easy-to-understand mechanics.

I love the enemies. At first I thought their pathfinding was too stupid, but then you used that 'flaw' to great effect in the Encagement level. The level design was fantastic, and I'd love to play more.
