Crowded Dungeon by RandyTayler

[raw]
made by RandyTayler for LD 42 (JAM)

A visual novel about orcs running out of space in their dungeon.

Artwork by me and my 15-year-old - I didn't realize the compo couldn't include a team member. Oh well! Call it a jam, I guess.

Making of (wherein I try to draw some stuff in Flash, model some stuff in Blender, and use neither) (also it's pretty boring): https://youtu.be/_1B7nekDet4

This game reminds me a lot of the kingdom of loathing. The music is great and matched perfectly with the humor.
Thanks for giving me a good laugh.

The art style is great and the music matches everything perfectly. However (this could just be me since I don't usually play visual novels) maybe have shorter slides with more choices.

Fun story, and well done! With pictures and music and multiple meaningful choices! Congrats, I can't wait for chapter 2!

This little tale is so fun.

It also fits the theme very well and the art illustrates it for a cool naughty mood.

Nicely done! gz :)

I was disappointed to see the end of the game. I wanted to hear more of the story! Cool game, well done.

Very well written game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/x7vAI59f_1I

Indeed nice music and the drawings are quite beautiful. I don't play a lot of visual novels but this looks different in an interesting way, perhaps something belonging to the Legend of Zelda universe

That was really entertaining. While I'm not normally a big fan of this kind of humor, it was delivered so charmingly that I couldn't help but enjoy it, and I was actually disappointed when it ended. Keep up the good work!

Bummer about all the work that got canned. I liked the creativity & writing, and I want my ticket for Chapter 2.

I particularly liked the fake beard / pretending to be a dwarf moment with the option to just plainly say "I'm not a dwarf." Reminds me of a part from an old adventure game that I remember thinking was pretty funny: https://i.imgur.com/w0Zbtyw.gif

@quicklyer I've seen screenshots of that game before! What is that? (Also: GAH! I hate when I do the same joke as somebody else. I guess great minds, etc.)

Thats "Simon the Sorcerer" i think.
Great game, i love the kind of meta handcrafted feeling to it, and especially the fact that you teamed up with your kid :D
I remember the good ol' days when adventure games were the greatest type of games there was, hehe

Hey ! I liked your game, I'm really happy someone made a textual game :D ! The art is very good, music fits well, and it's written pretty well. And you have a lot of humour ! I especially liked the part about orcs that "would kill to...kill..."
Thanks you for this entry, glad I played this game ! Good job !!

Congratulations on busting out all that artwork! I'd prefer, though, that it be a little less contrasty. I appreciate the translucent background on the text, but it would be easier for me to read if you took all the whites (except the text) down to medium-light grey. I found the music overpowering and because there's no way for you to dynamically match the music with the progression of the story, it didn't add anything. It's too bad you didn't complete at least one storyline; I'm interested to know more of this world and how Findle['s cousin] learned words like garderobe. I'd also like some consistency between the narrative voice and the fantasy world; either the voice could be more medieval or the story could include some contemporary touches. I would continue to play, if there were more story!

Adorable. Great writing and induction, not too much text either, no sentence is a waste of time to read. At first run I was a bit disappointed with shortness of the game as I made all correct choices to carry out the plan and have entered dwarven city without problem. But then I replayed and found that different choices lead to lots of new content and even takes you to a different place entirely. Cute graphics as well.
