Wenk! Is a really short game (1 minute if you know what you are doing) about a penguin exploring a dungeon and rethinking his life choices while sacrificing things he needs to survive.

And here you might think, but what is this "wenk" i just read about, and here is your answer.

Colin: This is the first time I "finished" a game in 3 days, so there's that. Also, wenk!

Romain: First jam ever x first time on Unity = So much FUN ! For a first time it was a good exercice, learning C# and making bad code :p Long Live Gunter !

While I have no knowledge of adventure time, any game with a dedicated bird sound noise instantly get a free point in my book. Honestly though my main issue with the game is that the player hitbox is kinda awkward. I got hit plenty of times when it looked like it should, and simultaneously, the head *doesn't* have a hitbox, which means that I would frequently be avoiding shots that wouldn't have hit me anyways. I guess that's just a problem with a tall ass penguin. :penguin:

How dare you shoot a penguin in his head you monster !
Yeah I know hitbox is weird BUT it also make layer effect ( not sure what is the technical term) when head hit the bottom of a wall tile, and 1 tile hitbox make moving easier in corridor.

@ilseroth ha yes, we had a hard time finding a hitbox that would "feel right" for that poor penguin. I think maybe making him rounder like other sprites could have helped in this regard but we ran out of time hehe.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked the "wenk" button :)

This is such a cute game, I love the art and SFX! Some of your sacrifices, such as knowledge, are pretty unique ones that I haven't seen before in similar games. This was a fun little challenge - and it definitely took me a few tries to beat haha. Great work!

This game is simple, and well executed. There were a couple minor things to complain about (render order is weird and bullets will be on top of you when they should be behind you), but nothing that impacted my enjoyment of the game. I got very "expected" sacrifices my first play-through, and was pleasantly surprised when I got to see the other sacrifices (won't say much as to avoid spoilers for those who read the comments before playing ;)

The game is clean and the art is crisp. Nice work! I would have loved to see another 5 levels and a boss if you had had the time to get to that point.

@taikuri Thanks so much :) We had plans for more sacrifices for game mechanics like losing sound effects or music, removing the source of lights, changing the player sprites and so on. But well, to sacrifice these features we first had to code them haha, so that didn't go so well :D

@bitdecay Oh, i didn't even notice the rendering order by you are right haha :D Glad you still enjoyed it, i'll look out for this for the next one.
We wanted to make some more levels and planned a simple boss but had to kill this dream on the last day to focus on polishing the loop we already had.

This game is quite basic, but really fun while it lasts! Raiding occult dungeons is totally a thing Gunther would do in his free time!

Graphics are clean and functional and the music, while not your own, is a nice choice.

Sweet little game!
