Jing & Jang delivery Co. by Sanguis
LD 41 Jam is over and we present you our first ‘Isometric Meditative Stress Simulator’ game, where as a delivery company you need to finish your daily routine: deliver boxes from one place to another. You will be in the skin of 2 main characters Jin & Jang.

Post-jam update
Thanks to your feedback we were able to discover some bugs and issues which we wanted to fix and polish. However when we were at work it was too tempting not to update some minor things. Now you can enjoy our version 5.4! In case you feel like post-jam updates are not in line with Jam rules. Feel free to run the original version 5.0.
Release notes for 5.4:
Bugs * Car collisions changed * Fixed player movement - now player can't run off the screen and can't walk on the roof of the building * Music stops playing after some time if character is not changed - music will play all day long * Space button restart (instantly) the game - Fixed
New features * Moving Van have back door open * Warehouse graphic changed * Drop/pickup zones changed and were made to be more intuitive * Mr. Walrus moved to Warehouse doors (to drop zone)
The job is pretty simple:
As Jin, Pick-up the box.

Handover the box to Jang.

Jang will deliver the box and will get back to Handover place.
*Repeat. *
As both Jin & Jang represents different personalities, the gameplay might differ. Be careful about that.

Overall the game's not too difficult. The graphics are funny and consistent, and the music is very listenable. Good job!
I like the music changing according to what happens.
Jin seems to be able to walk through the cars, without being hurt, and the Jang part of the job is harder! I was glad he can respawn!
This is a pretty little game, I enjoyed playing it!
Feel free to try my first game jam game here if you want! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/education-to-survive
Good fun little game.
@jaime-paz-lopes truth is that Jin's line is bit buggy as we didn't have more time to queue the cars properly. However Jang was actually designed that way. We needed to distinguish the 'meditation' line from the 'stress' line. Hence we did not implement any other 'button' that would change between the characters and player shouldn't really rush as Jin, because if he do, Jang will get punished as you mentioned :)
@Lacre more levels are intended already, we just needed to get back to our day-jobs now :-D but hopefully we will be able to get back to this in fore-seeable future
- What is going on with Jin? Really. He changes in a single frame from a monk's tunic to a black delivery uniform. He can walk through cars, and time stops while he's in control. I do kinda like the idea of having a much slower and punishment-free experience to break from Jang's panicked and difficult journeys. But I had no idea what was going on thematically.
- Why does Jin go back to his station automatically, but Jang has to run back?
- No, really, what the hell is Jin?
- The hitboxes on the cars seem a bit off, I'm pretty sure I died a few times while Jang was standing right on the dotted line, or before he entered the road.
- Jin is apparently a metaphysical motherfucker who can walk under the screen and walk onto Jang's road. And the cars all stop for him, and he can push cars backwards with his MIND. What the hell?
- I can walk on top of buildings but under cars.
- The music loops, but stops after a set number of loops if I don't switch to Jang soon enough.
- What?
In summary.
- It gets repetitive very quickly. Adding something to change the variety would make it more interesting
- Other's have mentioned, but the hit boxes could use some work
- There's also some issues with layering. Jin is always under the cars. I know it's a jam, but some little polish like that would really change the feel of the game altogether, and it's a simple fix
- Music, i think, is great. Constantly swapping between the slow and quick music makes an interesting dynamic
Hope you keep polishing this one :)
We are taking notes from the feedback and already preparing some polishing, updates and upgrades. Once again thank you ALL for playing our little game.
@amras0000 back to your immense feedback :) Jin truly is someone special and we had to change his gameplay(and also his nature) from Jang somehow. Jin's idle state is 'meditation' and you are right that he is back in his uniform within a single frame. That is intended as we wanted to make an impression of a calm person. That is why he can change in a single frame as his calmness is more of a state of mind rather than physical appearance.
Jin going back to his station automatically is also part of that 'calm' experience. So basically as Jin, you don't have to worry about anything, traffic, being run over or getting back on time. You just need to handover the package. He is also significantly slower than Jang.
Jang on the other hand is the 'hasty' one. He is constantly rushing and that is causing him stress. That is why we wanted to extend this and Jang needs to overcome more obstacles and even come back.
- as you and many others mention, the hitboxes need to be improoved along with some other objects on map (cars, buildings). We will also 'close' the map, so you can't get out of the screen, or to the line of your co-worker.
- music loop will be also changed as we did not anticipate that someone would play for one character that long (as we tried to design the level to be switching quite quickly and often between Jin & Jang)
I Hope I have covered everything, but in case you would have some other questions/suggestions or comments, please share that with us. :)
We really do appreciate all the feedbacks. Many thanks for that!
 What I loved
* The concept was funny
* The funny music in the background and fits perfect
* The controls felt good
:thought_balloon: My thoughts:
* I couldn't understand what the point where of the first street I had to cross. They never hit me and just stacked up. Was that intended or a glitch?
* Got repetitive very quick. I'd love to see different type of vehicles, maybe power ups or something which would make yuou run faster?
* Jin was under a car a lot of the time
* the trees on the other side of the road blocked my vision and caused me to get run over a lot :smile
* Maybe a little bit more of a story added?
Good job man!
- the car stacking needs to be re-done as we wanted queue instead. Bud they will never hit you, that is intended
- we wanted different vehicles but since this was my first time doing isometric graphics, we did not have enough time to create more
- I believe you meant Jang got under car very often and that is also intended, as that should be a challenging part of our game
- You are not the first one that is telling us about the Trees blocking the vision. To be honest we didn't have time yet to discuss the changes here, but on the day of release we were satisfied with current look (after all Jang's line should be stressing :))
We definitely want to continue our work on this peace, add some more levels, little story and few more things for sure.
Thanks a lot for your time with our game ;)
The art was really cool and I liked the isometric style. The game was quite humorous too. Well done!
Overall, cool game. It was fun to play.
The characters are pretty small on-screen, I would've scaled up the game x2 so they come across a little better. They're scaled up like x3 in the menu, right? I like the art, I would've liked to have been able to see it better.
Nice work overall!
Nice music and art style!
The left character starts hiden by the trees so its confusing when you start controlling it.
Overall is a nice concept.
I'll say the game would probably be better if it were scaled up a bit - as of now the entire thing is very small. This rules out more interesting Frogger mechanics and also makes you rely a bit on luck with the car spawns.
The gameplay was a little repetitive, but I think that fits with the theme of manual labour you were going for. Well done on your submission!
Okay, I am back, now when I go over the street at the bottom, the music changes and somehow I seem to control both characters at the same time? Also the one guy can walk over the roof? This is a very strange experience but I like the graphics and sound. Isometric and 8 bit? Very nice, cool thing, if only I knew how to play this...
Great job, congratulation on the project!
Thank you so much for the feedback guys! You are amazing! @Richard-N-Silva , @Ben-Hopkins , @pogo , @Gaming-Night , @fashionbatman , @Human , @Toulou , @mahdi-daneshvar ,
@Linus great to hear that you have enjoyed our game. You are right about the consequences, right now you'll get just a minor time penalty, but this is definitely on our list, what we want to add. But since some penalization would a be quite a great new feature, we want to take time to thing this through
@Flaterectomy , @gentel Thanks for your feedback and we will thing about changing the scale, and since we want to polish the details of each object soon it might nice. But overall we need to be careful about the scaling as I am afraid it might change the whole gameplay since player wouldn't be able to see the whole 'map'. But we'll see about that ;)
@gafblizzard that is great score. If you would like to chalange us with your score, to this day the high score is 14 delivered boxes ;) Feel free to beat us :)
@dp3rucha in recent update, we have changed the handover area a bit. It is now more 'spacy', so the trees should not cover your character anymore ;)
@EdwinGameDev you can check our new update, where we polished some things a little ;) Thanks for the feedback!
@Paul-Avallone Thank you for the comments. We have already changed the collisions and walking off map and on the top of the roof :) Jin can still walk thru the cars but this is the part of that zen experience (but we'll fix that as well :)). All the indicators about time, delivered boxes, deaths etc... will be also implemented in the future, the only thing we are missing now, is the TIME :)
@gonutz really don't know what went wrong here :) All the details should be in the game description ;) The truth is that the problems you mention (walking off the map, SPACE restarting the game, walking on the roof) are there. We have fix those just yesterday. I am bit confused that you did not know how to control our game since all that info is really in the game description :) But basically all you need are just the arrows (and mouse in menu). You are starting as Jin (the guy on the right side), you go to pick up the box (no need to press anything) and that you go across the street to the place where the other guy is staying (that would be Jang), once you are there the box will be handed over (again no need to press anything) and you will now control Jang and he needs to deliver the box across the road and get back. That is it :)
We have just today released a new update of our game, that is fixing most of the things that you guys mention in your feedback. So now you can go and check that out here : https://jin9310.itch.io/jinjangdeli . Since there are lot of changes we will keep the original version of the game also available. Thank you all for your support! And have a great day! :)
Music gets a bit repetitive after a while
I liked the game, but I could not understand where the theme of the jam comes in.
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.

And we don't want that. We want to show you how big difference is between 'meditative' state and 'stress' state. The gap is huge. And if player will ignore this difference, he will get hurt and will drop dead in a second. But if the player tries to understand the different behavior and will try to find the balance between those 2 different states, he can actually thrive on this and get perfect result.
That was our idea, how to show you guys, our approach to 2 incompatible genres. :)
Great attemp to mix two incompatible concepts but it didn't felt like 2 incompatible genres.
Awesome graphics and adequate audio contribute to an oldschool atmosphere.
Great job!
Come and try mine! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/tactical-hydra
Love the music, reminds of old days NES and pixel art to.
Gameplay wise it feels like frogger with 2 levels
Very nice entry!
*'I don't care! just pick up that damn boxes'*
I really enjoyed this game. a simple and fun gameplay, the arts and music are fitting as well. Good work
**The Good:**
I really liked what you were going for here. The change between the slow-paced, leisurely Jin and the hectic and frantic Jang was highlighted well by the change in music. The gameplay itself was functional and fun a lot of the time. All of this meshes well with the music to create a nice, cohesive experience. I think the overall feel of the game, and it could have a lot of potential.
**The Needs-Improvement:**
This game is in some serious need of polishing. The basic controls in 5.4 are good enough, but a lot of other things are less than optimal.
-The title screen is probably the worst offender: this is supposed to be the big hook to draw you into the game, but it just reuses some in-game graphics against a blank background and boring soundtrack? Similarly, the game ends very anticlimactically, with the cars getting awkwardly stuck in place and a simple "You Win" screen.
-Some of the graphics clash pretty badly with one another. The pixelated larger font and what looks like the Game Maker default blood particles stick out the most to me.
-The lack of sound effects was a major letdown, since sound effects can be used to provide feedback to the game or to just create a more believable world (honking cars, yelling boss, etc.)
-There's certainly a disconnect between the gameplay and the theme. Why, from a gameplay perspective, do we play Jin's part? His sections are neither engaging nor rewarding to play, and only seems to exist to highlight the difference between the two.
-The game got repetitive pretty quickly.
-There's a distinct lack of feedback for when, for example, you drop off a box or you get reincarnated. There's no big hurrah to tell you you've done well or messed up, it all just sort of ... happens.
**The What-I-Would-Do's**
I would rethink the role of Jin in the game, as his section could be seen as just wasting time. I would suggest putting power-ups on this section to help you in Jang's section - some kind of "a little bit of light in every shadow" type mentality going on.
To further illustrate the difference between the two, I would make Jang's section harder than the 5.4 release, which I thought was way too easy. Maybe for the first level to get players interested and accustomed to the controls, but it should get difficult quickly.
I would add more content and levels to keep the player interested, even if it's just different locations to work at and different sized cars and trucks to avoid.
Add the little features that help bring the game to life like sound effects, a more robust HUD, and some more unique particle effects like when you successfully deliver a box.
Sorry if this comes across as harsh, I just want to see you guys reach your maximum potential.
Jin (or the guy who meditates) seems to be immortal to car crashes. Correct me if im wrong?
Great work!!
I hoped this game has ending story. So, It will make the game more interesting.
:)
