This is a game where you try to survive by blowing up the blocks with your bombs before you run out of space. Don't get hit by your own bombs!

The game is similar to Bomberman, but different. Check out the source code and remix the game!

Controls: * Arrow keys: Move * Space: Plant bomb

Powerups: * Bomb Up: Have one more bomb on the screen at the time. * Power Up: Bombs explode bigger. Watch out! * Health Up: Recover 1 HP.

Note from Coda Highland: My son Jason is 11 years old and built this mostly on his own in about 8 hours. I provided some technical advice and showed him how to use the tools, but he did most of the work by himself, including picking out the graphics and sound effects and scripting the game mechanics.

Hey I just wanna say your son did a pretty good job, especially for a game made entirely in SNAP. Gameplay is cool, but I wish there was some info that told us how to play at the main menu. Not bad really, maybe speed up the player movement so the game doesn't feel slow.

I think this was very well done. Good composition of sound effects, and it's a clever twist on Bomberman. A shorter countdown (half?) and a higher punishment for getting blasted would make it more frantic.

Great to see a game made in Snap, that is this good.

Great job! If he likes snap, check out stencyl. Same type of programming elements but can build to iOS and Android as well as html5.

Big fan of classic bomberman, it's interesting to see gameplay vs. environment. This is a good starting point, I hope Jason had fun and wants to continue to develop your game developing skills. It's always rewarding to see the fruits of your labor!

@rexpeppers I'm trying to nudge him towards a non-visual programming language. He's got Python experience, for example, but he abandoned it after discovering how terrible the bundled graphics APIs are. He wants to learn Unity next but I didn't think it was a good idea to throw him into that in a jam context.

nice game! It was neat seeing sort of an arcade style bomberman, rather than competetitive, and it fits the theme really well! It ramps up in difficulty because the blocks spawn faster over time.

Cute and well done. I thought the bomb power upgrades weren't doing anything for a while and realized its just a scaling up rather than the classic Bomberman style length increase. Movement speed upgrades would be awesome but a good entry!

The game performed pretty sluggishly in my browser, but it was workable. A clever use of the theme, and I was pleased to see the variety of powerups. I hope your son had fun making it and gets the 20 ratings needed to see how well he did. (Gotta rate them games to get there though.)
