Shoot and Die by LifeHack

[raw]
made by LifeHack for LD 40 (JAM)

It's a NON-Survival (because you will DIE) Top-Down/First Person Shooter.

https://youtu.be/WfZdmatxDWs

It's not finished but can't put more hours to it. I think is a good playable result. Hope you guys enjoy it! :-)

You need to be smart and quick. Some enemies can only be killed in First Person Shooter view (i.e. the smaller ones).

Difficulty: You need to survive for certain amount of seconds each Level BUT.. when you kill enemies.. you increase the speed of enemy spawn as well as the enemy difficulty. So better RUN!!!

Lose Condition: Run out of Health.

Controls:

  • Arrow Keys or WASD to move the character
  • Mouse to point and shoot (first person view allow to point up and down for bigger or smaller enemies).

  • Rifle mode: Left click shoots "Bullets", Right Click "Grenade"

  • Power Mode: Left click shoots "Powerful Blast of Energy", Right click "Activates shield" for 10 seconds. (once activated you can switch to "Rifle Mode" and shoot bullets or grenades as well)

Press "ESC" at anytime during your gameplay to control Music and Sound FX Vol as well as exiting the game (this works when you are not in the main Startup Screen).

Note: To use the actions in "Power Mode" you need to wait for the blue meter to gather at least 25%. Each action cost 25% of the blue meter.

Switching camera can be smoother. Hard to access UI when first person shooter mode. Overall ok! Keep it up!

3rd person camera a bit confusing, I liked the game play though!

I really like this entry, adding 'switch camera' really distinguishes it from generic top-down shooters, and the graphics is well stylized, animations are smooth.

When I started first level I thought like 'that is easy', and then the big one appeared. As I didn't realize there are power ups and grenades I had to run and shoot until the time was gone. Anyways power ups are also cool addition to the game, and made it even more fun to play.

What could really improve it more is if first person aiming head any impact (giving headshots to those minions would be satisfying).

Keep up the good work!

I thought being able to switch between first person and top down shooter was really unique and innovative, but it didn't really serve a purpose in the game. This has a lot of potential if that aspect is fleshed out!

Thanks all for your comments and feedback. This was a concept idea I had in my mind for a while and trying to put it all together in 72hs was not enough to have a nice finished game.. this is more of a concept art at this point. Soon to become something greater. :-) Thanks all!

actually did hold up to the theme...kind of simple, but in a weekend it turned out pretty good! Nice job.

While I like the idea I didn't get the point of switching perspective. It seems I could kill everyone in first person. Otherwise this was a nice game.

Rough on the edges, but cool concept, I enjoyed goofing around :)

Very interesting concept! It could use some smoothing around the edges but pretty enjoyable.

Check out my game if you would like!

Third person camera is a bit weird and I think a crosshair would be nice in the FPS camera. Well, nice game in general!

Movement is a bit buggy, and I'd prefer it if you bind a keyboard key to the perspective switch and lock the cursor, cause I kept clicking out of my window. Besides that I enjoyed playing! The grenade is very satisfying to use hehe

I enjoyed playing the game. The idea is really interesting and I would love to see this explored and completed. The balance between the big and the medium enemies worked well, however when the little guys came in I was killed instantly. They are so fast and hard to hit that I just couldn't keep track. I loved the graphics and the music choice, but the sound effects became a bit repetative. The only one other problem I have with the game is that the camera switching was kind of awkward, however alltogether this was a fun little package with really enjoyable graphics and ideas.

I feel like there is definitely something to explore here just needs a little more polish! Overall really cool though my biggest problem was the sound effects being crazy loud.

@dwulff Thanks so much for the feedback, I agree and will make of this base a great game in the future. Also, If you press "ESC" during the gameplay at the level you get a pop up screen where you can control the music and sound fx Vol.

Really cool concept for a game, a bit more polish and a few more mechanics and this would be super solid. I found myself getting addicted to this game, although it was kind of easy. Nice job though!

The gameplay was pretty solid! Had a few issues with the control scheme such as view changing being tied to an on screen button. Was pretty polished and there weren't any glaring bugs. I had fun!

Really neat idea, but the UI could use some work.

Solid game play, does top down gameplay can do something fps cant? I cant see any need from top down mode.

@tobia88 thanks for your feedback. Top down is currently a little faster to move but ideally they will have different advantages. I didn’t have enough time to add more to the game in 72hs. :-)

The switch between the cameras was a nice gameplay mechanic. The art was also well done, liked the horde of enemies that would come in each level. The minimalist colours also worked well in setting the scene.
