Corporate Ladder by ConorOD

[raw]
made by ConorOD for LD 40 (COMPO)

Go to work, do the same repetitive tasks every day and slowly inch your way up the corporate ladder!

Keep an eye on your energy levels and happiness - lose too much of either and you won't be as productive, and may even quit your job, abandoning the climb up the corporate ladder!

But watch out - the more important you are, the more difficult things get!

The game itself is an interesting idea, although my hand hurts so much from clicking!

Also the quit game button doesn't work when you lose

Holy clicking batman! I damn near wore out my clicker.

Great work. Played havoc with my RSI though! I found that watching videos to recover happiness was only worth doing when you were at zero productivity (right after you get promoted), that way there's no down-side. if you take the game further, maybe implement a system that stops (or discourages) you from slacking off right after you get promoted.

Interesting idea. The graphics are simple but work. I think it progresses a bit slowly if you aren't using some sort of clicking macro, but definitely an interesting take on the theme :)

JackIsaacs - you need to click it 10000 times to quit! Er... actually, no, that's a bug, oops.

gwolf86 - Agreed! Serves me right for only starting to try and balance the mechanics in the last few hours before the comp deadline!

Wrist hurts, this game is very clicker(ish) has a very certain Adventure Capitalist feel to it, you start small but slowly build your way up. I think this is the kind of game that would work really well on phones but on PC it's very awkward. I like the simple pixel art graphics, it all blends in well together. I find it a tad bit awkward how I seem to be able to take infinite days of sick without any repercussions (at least from what I've seen). Overall a pretty nice clicker game that would be even better if it just had straight up more content.

This is a really good real life simulation. A perfect example of why we need games. Gj

I think the idea behind this game is pretty good and I also liked the simple but clean art.
However the repeatingly clicking gets old pretty fast. Would have wished that you get to do something else after a promotion? It's pretty hard to come up with something that doesn't take up too much time to implement and that is still fun to play I guess.

Still good work on your side!
(Also not going to work the whole time should get you punished haha)

Nice concept.
Although I couldn't get more than $1000? That was weird and got me kinda stuck, maybe I missed something. But I still liked it, it has nice art too! Very simple yet effective

PhillSerrazina - if you leave the office before 5pm, you don't get paid for that day (you can check the time via the clock on the back wall).

Nice use of theme. I liked the amount of interactions in game and how whole it plays. And the dark side is sound design, idk why all those noises only irritates. Overall, very good.

Dumivid: Hah, yes, the 'sound design' was a result of 20 minutes in Bfxr right before the deadline - in retrospect no sound may have been better! Hence me omitting 'audio' as a category!

Nooooooooooooooooooo!! Whyyyyy, my fingers hurts, I got finally promoted to CEO... and when I walk slowly to CEOs desk, game crashes :(
Anyway, great concept (scariest part is that is too much real :D), if you wont make full game of this, please may I steal your concept? Because it´s funn :))

P.S. Would like to take course F*** everyone else in real life :D

Sanguis - I only spotted that crash after the comp deadline - I had just run out of time playtesting so didn't spot it in time! I'll probably release a more polished version of it soon, but feel free to steal the concept all you want! Hell, if you're familiar with GameMaker, feel free to DL the source file, expand on that, and release it! (Please credit me if you do this though!)

Nice office! I liked the idea of "clicking the spreadsheet", but only until my first promotion :pensive: It would be nice if you could instead maybe hack away on the keyboard, open programs, click in menus, fill out forms, etc. all completely random as if you were just a kid pretending to work. I think that the idea of getting good at imitating work is quite interesting

johnbrynte - I really like that idea! But it would have been way too much for me to implement in 48 hours - maybe in a future update!

It's sad how this is the life of most office people. That's why we go home make games, haha! It would be nice if you implement that in the game. Game making in a game made.

This is a really good game. However I wish there would be some way to shortcut the clicking a bit more maybe an autoclicker when holding the button. of course this should be an achievment that needs to be earned first.

Click, click, click! My mouse got a workout to be sure.
I actually called in sick several times as well.

Very nice game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0hdEq4T8dE
