Also it would help a lot if charge meter was placed somwhere closer to the player model. Currently is is hard to keep track of both hero and a charge in the corner.
Isn't the learning curve seems a bit hard for a Mario-like game?
It might help to add a different way of dying, so that this mechanic is easier to understand.
I like the twist you gave to the platformer using the theme! :)

Not sure what space and down do, because I wasn't able to get far enough.
As you die a lot, maybe a faster respawn will be nice.
