Western Hero by Guilb

[raw]
made by Guilb for LD 40 (JAM)

In the wild west, fame builds up quick. People will know you. Both friend and foe.

As your name spreads by the desert, more of them will come. But you will be prepared, your bullets will give'em a warm welcome.

As people start to live near you, protect them, watch out for them.

Your name, your fame is all you have. Pay close attention to it, always...

Good job! But citizens are kind of retarded... they seem feeling attracted by bullets

Western hero yohoho) the atmosphere of the wild west is shocking) I also thought about something similar in the game but focused on physics and mechanics) but you managed to manage at a fairly weighty jam level) well, the web version would have been way too)

Nice game! Nice athmosphere! Hard to play especially if your play it on a tv screen. Gamepad support would've been nice but still a nice game.

Find out that I played the game more than 15 minutes...
Nice work, graphics and sounds really amazing (added asset forge tool to my list).

But there is one minor problem: you are shooting not in exact pointer location, but it's a matter of habit.

Nicely done, the art assets are high quality, the downtime of waiting for bandits to come up is a little long between waves. I would recommend:

* make the enemy bullets slower and increase the density,
* make the villagers to run slower and they could be knocked out by bullets but player could help them up.

Art is beautiful and solid. By combining the waves and building a town, this game makes me feel that I've achieved something. For me it's a bit too hard to aim in distance.

Awesome. Amazing art. After learning not to shoot civilians, it became even more fun :D I had a bit of trouble navigating first but then I learned. I'm gonna play this one even more, thank you for such a solid entry, epic job ;)

The game is really beautiful and story is good. The gameplay idea could have been better, but it is okay. Overall a well made game.

Very good game, It keeped me playing until I defeat it. Music doesn't fit the style, though, and the Ludum theme is not as present as I'd like. Any way, great work!

Really liked the fact that you took time to add a little story in there. The atmosphere of the game was great you put those assets really well together. I just wasn't to sure if I had to or not shoot the citizens (cause they had boost on them) Anyway great entry ! :3

This is a really good game. The mechanic is solid, and a great take on the theme.

The one thing I REALLY wish I could change is the player's movespeed: it feels like I'm trying to have a gunfight while walking through molasses. Also, I think it would be cool and helpful if the townspeople used their little speech bubbles to warn you of incoming bandits: it would make finding them easier and add to the atmosphere. Of course, I understand that it's hard to do things like that during the jam.

All in all, though, definitely one of the best games I've seen thus far. Good work!

Great art! I especially like the coffin detail when killing enemies! I wish the movement wasn't so frictionless, it takes a while to accelerate and decelerate. Good work!

Solid but not very innovative gameplay, interesting art style. Love process of expanding town each wave and pile of coffins. Nicely done!

Nice art and really fun to play! I really liked the game I wish it was more difficult and with more mechanics like dodging and reloading, but that's asking too much for an LD. The idea is awesome, the way things are represented is amazing, the coffins falling, more people coming, and new houses. It would be nice if it had a walking animation though. Amazing job guys!

The gameplay is a little too simple and brainless to be honest. Having the player be stunned on the floor everytime they're hit didn't feel good at all, pretty frustrating on the long run.
AMAZING graphics and music however, the post-effects made the pixel art look so good, and the music was on point ! (loved the responsive dancefloor)

Really cool game :-) I wish there were a checkpoint since this is not so easy... As for the music, is there only one loop ? Because a slow tension build-up would be great, it would keep the adrenaline up when you're facing many ennemies :-)
(our game doesn't appear on my account, but it's over here : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/the-darkest-light )

Really, really good looking game. Sadly, it lacks a lot of punchiness when it comes to shooting bandits, and I had trouble understanding what to do apart from shooting said bandits. I didn't see anything change if they stole stuff, and killing civilians had no visible impact (apart from the stat on bottom left)

cool game. i like that the shooting wasn't super easy and required some getting used to. humorous idea with the coffins :)

This was fun to play! The shooting required some prediction of enemy movement, and as you got more fame, there were more civilians to avoid with your big fat long range bullets! I got close to the end, was a nice balance of difficulty.. despite ramping up quite fast! Gj!

Really neat, was pretty fun to play. The bullets being off target was slightly distracting but you get used to it. :D

Nice but hard game. I had some problems with shooting at first though. It looks like it is targeting a but above where the mouse is pointing.

Great game non the less.

I wish the animation of movement, for example like Lego, some particles when fire and kill some one.

loved pretty much everything. well done on making such a cool game. i like how the buildings just drop in from the sky and the coffins collect to show how many people you've killed. I think the shooting could use some juicing but other than that, with some time and added variety you could have a really sweet game on your hands

Really nice. It's tough to aim and dodge at the same time. I managed to kill 5 before I died.

I really like the story and the way everything drops from the sky, in fact the whole aesthetic is really great. I like that the gameplay involves such careful dodging and aiming, it adds a bit of interest beyond most similar shooters. I experienced a bit of lag as more stuff was added in later waves, but other than that I really can't fault this game, it is great!

I like the shooting mechanic but the movement felt a bit odd. I had some graphic bugs like the circle around me got stuck also I could run out of the screen on one point. but I really liked the graphics and UI
