Game Jam Jam Game by nathanhoad

[raw]
made by nathanhoad for LD 42 (JAM)

A simple puzzle game about making jam. It's a game jam jam game.

I ended up not having time to make music/sounds (I'll add them in after the competition as well as proper intro/outro screens)

There's also an issue if you drop your jam on the side of the conveyor belt instead from above the game crashes :(

Really liked the graphics. I felt like the punishment for getting run over was a bit too harsh. Be cool if you could begin to automate things and bring in the berries faster. Fun game.

Nice graphics, love the pixels. Found a bug where the game crashed when trying to place the finished jam on the side of the conveyor belt. Fun game none the less!

I'm a sucker for games where you have to combine stuff to get other stuff, and this one has some neat secret combinations that aren't apparent at first, but a joy to discover!

Love the pixel-art, really great job! Although it is bit hard, once you get hit by a car :) But still very nice mood (even without sound;))

Let me guess.. This was supposed to be a compo game but you decided to enter the Jam instead?

@afendar The Lady Marmalade was a puzzle a friend at camp came up with. I'm thinking I'll swap it out for something easier in the final game.

@smiley Haha no, I was under no illusions I'd be able to make anything from scratch in that 48 hours (this is my first LD). This game is built on top of an engine I've been developing for a couple of months anyhow.

The run animation cycle and the graphics are super neat and fun. I like the Overcooked feel of the game but I found that going back and forth was a it tedious. I'm sure with one or two iterations on the level design this game could go from nice to awesome :)

@rend Thanks for the feedback :) I think I'll draw up a puzzle dependency chart and turn this thing into more of a varied adventure game (where making each of the 'master' jams is a multi-step puzzle) somehow.

It's a nice entry! It really needs a background music though, even just a free track matching a bit the art style / mood would be a great improvement. Speaking of the art style, it is really neat.
Haven't found how to make Lady Marmalade yet.

@my-sweet-whomp Thanks for the feedback :) I'm keen to write some music for the final version (and add some sound effects). Haha yeah the Lady Marmalade is a tough one. It think I'll end up swapping it out for a different puzzle.

Awesome game! I LOVE the pixel art, very good job on that. The gameplay is quite fun, like dodging the traffic and trying to figure out how to make the jams (still don't know how to make the Lady Marmalade...). I liked the more unique jams as well, like the Traffic Jam, that was brilliant! The jam machines are nicely polished as well with the ingredient and time indicators. I like the idea of adding more stuff to it for a final version, I'd love to play that as well!

Fun stuff! Once I worked out "Paper jam", the logic behind "Traffic jam" washed over me with an odd tingling sense of dread. And after a few failed attempts, I made "Traffic jam." Ha ha ha <3

Uhh, like everyone else here, still haven't worked out Lady Marmalade. I'll give it a few more tries.

I like this. Fun and simple.

@chris-coe Haha I'm pretty keen to add *many* more jam puns (Space Jam... maybe?) to the final game.
