Ascending Assault by walnoot

made by walnoot for LD 42 (COMPO)

Confined to small islands, the robots have started a war among themselves. Expanding horizontally is not an option, so going up is the only way to go. Build more workers, expand your base and batter your enemies with artillery fire before they destroy you.

Totally awesome. After I got the hang of it, I loved it. The fact that you will basically be unable to change anything in the lower layers when setting up the next is brilliant.

My strategy was to add another command center on the next level, remove the ramp and let them work separately. That way the workers stopped running so far and stayed closer to the production.

After I figured that out, it became easy. That is no issue, though, I really enjoyed figuring it out and reaping the rewards.

Needs a little polish but cool idea and good execution. Reminded me of Dune II on Sega for some reason :)

Wow! Just wow. Best game I've played jet. After getting used to the controls I was hooked to the game and HAD to beat it. With 3 floors and about 30 Robots I managed to finally defeat the Enemy. This game feels really polished and I had much fun playing it.

Sweet minimalistic game, very engaging. I really dig the graphics. Most impressive you managed to complete it all by yourself!

Pretty nice! I especially liked the way the two resources are fairly well balanced, in that initially you need steel to build but artillery costs a lot of fuel.

I really liked the idea of me giving out orders and the minions executing them in a no-nonsense manner. However at some point they kind of broke down (I think after building the second floor) and I had to order them around manually, which I didn't like as much. It feels like it takes ages to get my first artillery cannon, but I'm a hopeless strategy player so that might be the cause as well. The controls felt solid and the look and feel was nice and to the point as well. Sounds were simple but made the game just that little bit better. If it would've been possible to upgrade certain stations or workers as well I think the game would've been even more interesting than it already is.

Great idea! Really extreme space managment.

Pretty sweet game! I couldn't figure out how to have multiple ramps - I had to destroy my old ones to keep building up. Was that intentional?

@scottyseus Hmm weird, it is possible to make multiple ramps. I think it's caused by the fact that the ramp takes up more space that the model really shows, so it can be unintuitive where it's allowed to place a ramp.
