Made in* : Gamemaker, LMMS, Audacity, BFXR, Photoshop, ASEprite

Notes :

It was fun to make a very janky "3D" engine in gamemaker, which is basically translating relative 2d positions on the x and y to scale/translation on a surface. If you want to see what's actually happening in the game (cheat) you can press Shift + Tab.

I would have loved to get positional 3d audio working, but my understanding of vector maths fell right on its face. So sound positions are not accurate. Maybe in an updated build!?

Thanks for playing!

WTF?! This is brutal and i like it. Very disturbing.
Sound positions are off, but its a good thing acually. It supports the mood.

This is so unsettling, in the best possible way - I feel as disoriented as I would be playing actual baseball, and nearly as uncomfortable as I'd be in actual Hell. Great sound effects and great concept - I made it to one base and then died, but who's counting? :)

@gno-evenimente aha thanks! I think that means you don't have DirectX runtimes installed? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=35 or https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429 if you want to grab them. Or I should probably add some kind of check in the game before enabling shaders. Though if i did that you'd miss out on all the glitchy effects that add that nice cheap and quick layer of texture to the game. Hmm.

The atmosphere in this game is amazing! It's visceral and terrifying. I can't believe that you pulled this off in GameMaker 1! I wouldn't even know where to start...

Wow, really great game. I was not expecting this at all when opening it. It fits the theme great and is really unique. Well done!

Ok so I don't think the mechanics or tech were particularly amazing... but that didnt matter at all because it was scary and fun. reminded me DOOM back in the day, scary as hell with limited vision and great effects. The rough controls made me feel more panicked when being attacked and trying to figure things out. Really well done! You dont need high tech to give the player an awesome experience!

The atmosphere of the game definitely brought on the creepy side, got that nailed down. The indicator for the pitch wasn't showing up properly it seemed when I was playing on stream. Loved the concept though,

Absolutely ungodly terrifying. I Love the atmosphere, well done!

25. Apr 2018 · 07:47 UTC
It was a bit difficult to strike or understand how to move as the pitch and the base are slightly (on my screen) not in the same axis (maybe its normal?) but I nearly had a wet pants when zombies or whatever got into the way xD
Well done for the mood !

I have no fucking idea what is going on but it's terrifying! Which I love. It would be great to see the same game with maybe slightly more explanation, and maybe slowing the ball down or something!

5 stars for atmosphere, the only downside is it's really hard to tell what is actually going on in the game. If you wanted to take the project further I would recommend taking away some of the blackness and finding some theme fitting special effects that help the player understand what they are doing and where they are going

This has a great atmosphere and I actually jumped on the first out. Gameplay wise it's a bit hard to figure what's going on at first, but I got a hang of it.

Nice work.

Excellent use of visuals and audio; it only needs some minor tweaking to truly strike fear into the player. Solid work.

So cool. Horror Sports. Immediately, I felt like I did the first time playing Devil Daggers. The mood is tangible- connecting with the ball is perfect (especially after a series of outs) and sliding was surprisingly satisfying. Haven't beat it yet- but I'll be back! Thanks for the game!

Absolutely brilliant premise to actually create purposeful "jump-scares." Jump-scares being in quotations because its not quite a jump-scare. I don't think the game has to be this dark... maybe have it take place in some fleshy-pit? Honestly, thats a small nitpick in an otherwise fantastic game.

The graphics were amazing. I loved the mix of sports and horror (I had a similar idea, but not the skills to do it), so I loved someone did this, and did it GOOD.

Nice game, you should feel proud :)

This game is so dark and moody. Great job! I wish the bases were larger, I had a really hard time not overshooting them.

Why the hell does it say "safe" when I get raped by dark forces two seconds after xD Really amazing atmosphere and play with effects. It feels like you really knew what you are trying to achieve with the atmosphere and you did it. There is a certain base which I fail each time, for some reason I can't get to it before those nice people from hell ambush me, and I can't really do anything to them either it is just a strike after strike, so eventually I had to give up due to repetitiveness. Custom built 3D engine was a great decision, I don't think you would achieve this unique look in unity without spending too much time.

Very disturbing, in a good way! The art style is excellent, creating the right mood for the game. It's pretty hard do play, but at the same time, it's fun. Good job!

I also made a horro game, please, take a look: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/confessional

@kr4ft3r "safe" is a loose concept in hell ;) -- also @jonathan-daar if you press Ctrl or Shift you will Slide into base which helps stick you to it.

@legavroche yeah it ended up a bit darker than I originally intended. I lightened up the sky a bit in an updated build.

Oh thank you I was trying to let go of shift before hitting the base so I wouldn't slip past it.

When I tried to play your game on stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames, it made OBS go black until I restarted it. This persisted even after closing the game. I haven't had this issue streaming any other games, and have no idea how your game could have caused it.
🎤 ragtagradical
28. Apr 2018 · 16:59 UTC
@saoi-games i haven't heard of that issue before. Other streamers have run it fine. I record my videos of it in OBS. What is your screen resolution? Maybe there's an issue there.

Awesome entry! Really nice work with that audio, the mood, and glitchy graphics, totally nailed it! And the idea of mashing baseball and horror is just great, loved it!
That said, I found it pretty hard to play, couldn't finish one single game, even with your instructions. There's little on the screen to orient yourself, and I was under the impression of being constantly moving. Other than that, this was a superb entry. Congratulations!!

I didn't quite get what was going on... the first-person perspective made the baserunning pretty hard. I did manage to hit one ball, and ran to one base, but then after that I couldn't tell where I was supposed to go or what to do next. Do I just keep batting from wherever position I'm standing at the moment? That's unlike baseball enough that it was not intuitive.

A+ for atmosphere, though, you really have a good aesthetic going on for a horror game.
