Back to Base by IndieManiaC

[raw]
made by IndieManiaC for LD 42 (JAM)

Game made using Godot Engine, Aseprite and some soundFX from the web SOME POST JAM NOTES (mainly addressing the comments): - we didnt quite get the size of everything so we ended up just letting everything be small since if it was big you wouldnt see the circles around you. Theres probably a "cleverer" way of doing it. - Its a bit empty cause the I, the programmer, started coding the less important aspects of the game instead of adding some enemies/obstacles like the original idea was. There are still some textures unused cause there was no time to implement them. - The game doesnt end, theres a score on the end when you run out of fuel or HP. It gets harder over time though (more damage from being outside the circles, more asteroids to dodge, i think there was something else too...)

KNOWN BUGS: - shooting has no cooldown, this can be fixed if you dont smash your mouse 😇 - map isnt generated properly so theres circles everywhere instead of forming paths and deadends

In the search for interplanetary transport, humanity found a way to travel long distances faster than light using wormholes. On the inauguration of the first wormhole leading to a better life, the forces caused by the wormhole went out of control and separated space into very small circles, separated by purple matter. Given the size of those circles they shrink when activity is high. You are on a quest to find out if theres still any big pieces of space left for humanity to ruin again using your improved wormhole creator.

Navigate your spaceship through the shrinking circles to find your way to base. You will take damage to your ship if you go outside the circles and moving uses fuel. Shoot with left click to create a tunnel which will keep you safe from taking damage.Get to the base to refuel and repair.

Controls: Mouse cursor determines direction, W is forward, S is brake, Left click to shoot tunnel beam, Hold right click to zoom out Back to Base high detail.png

I was able to run the web version.

Wait... hold on... I'm trying to write a review and the corners of my screen keep closing in on me. What the heck brain. This musta got annoying to develop after a while lol

I like how it's coming along! It feels kinda easy and not very exciting atm, but this has a lot of possibilities of ways to make it more interesting (eg. enemies, powerups, etc). I hope you're able to put more into this once you take a break for a few days to get some sleep!

Can you please please please also make it so I can click and hold the mouse button? My finger is tired now lol

Whoops, I went totally in the wrong direction - didn't notice the arrow until I started flying off into the pink/purple abyss. Eventually I was able to right my navigation and find my way to the ship. Some enemies or other ways to lose health would certainly add excitement but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Well done!

Graphics are cool. If there's an end I never found it. Good job building this. It's a bit of a lillypad hopper and I don't have any advice to move it meaningfully beyond where it is.

I thought it was a lot of fun at first and the mechanics play well. I just wish there was more content whether it be enemies, levels, difficulty increase, etc. Great art and good sound. You should keep building this it has potential.

I think the game is pretty solid tough could use a bit of polish.
I found it really hard to use the bridges because the controls are so floaty I kept drifting off it.

This game has a pretty neat concept and I like the trippy, space distorting visuals. The pixel art on for the title screen also looks really good. That said, my main problem with this game is that it feels very barren. It definitely needs enemies or some other mechanic to spice it up, as the game gets pretty repetitive after a while. Overall, this is a really interesting game, even if it's a bit underdeveloped. Nice work!

Is it possible to win? The game started making sense after I read about the arrow in the comments - it led me to a couple space stations, but new ones kept popping up... this is what driving for uber must feel like (;

It is a great concept. I especially like the banner, great art; but, i think that in order to appreciate the pixel art, in game, you need to use a lower resolution; in that way you force the nice retro colorful effect to be displayed (And of course enable full screen, because otherwise you will end up with a little screen, but the same result). It really needs some enemies or something to shoot at. At the beginning i was thinking that shooting at the space edge was needed in order to cross... and until i noticed the little arrow, i didn't get the idea.
Overall it was very interesting, Great work!

good game - my only change would be the controls to have the keys rotate and thrust instead of using the mouse location - thanks for making it

Nice gameplay idea, I liked it ! Like others said I would prefer to be able to control the ship only with keys. Good game otherwise!
