Invaded Space by jessifin

[raw]
made by jessifin for LD 42 (COMPO)

Move with WASD, fire with spacebar, toggle music with M. You are the sole traveler on a journey through interstellar space... What will you encounter on your way?

Made in WebGL (Javascript, HTML and a tiny amount of CSS). I used the "webgl-utils.js" file created by Google to set up the WebGL context (file is included with source code).

OK, at first I was bored. The controls felt janky as hell.... Then the wormhole thing happened, the music kicked in, I felt like I was in the 70s trippin on magic mushrooms. Yeah I didn't know WTF was going on, but I was smiling. Great entry.

This is really interesting, it's like you took the wraparound screen from asteroids and showed us what that would look like from the pilot's perspective. Loved the way you handled the transition into it

I enjoyed the opening cinematic
I thought being able to see all of the "alternate universes" was very cool. The first time that the camera pulled back and I saw them side by side it was very neat.
The core of the game beyond that was somewhat threadbare and left a bit to be desired. If there was a bit more to do, I could see this game being very, very cool

Woa, this is not what I was expecting!

I have a strong beef with the controls. Maybe it's just muscle memory at this point, but I see a little cursor like that and I expect L/R rotate.

Once things get going, it's pretty confusing. Why do my projectiles keep blowing up, why does everything loop, etc. I love the idea, but it probably needs to be signaled better to the player.

Somehow despite that I still had a lot of fun. I'd highly encourage adding a bit more to the description to users don't need to spend as much time trying to figure out the game.

I found the controls a little confusing and didnt really understood what i am supposed to do, but the concept and the trippin kaleidoscope were neatly implemented.

The music kicks ass! I thought my music stream on pause had start streaming again :) (I left your game running with it running in the background while writing this)

Most confusing controls ever. Got a hang of it after a while, but too hard. I think game would have been more fun if the controls were better. I think using the mouse as direction you thrust to would be perfect.

Otherwise, what the heck is happening? I have no idea. Everything duplicates. Trippy! :D

Like the humor at the beginning. :)

OK I'm getting a lot of flak for the controls, lol. I didn't realize it was that bad when I was making it, but I can definitely see how they are counter intuitive. A few people have suggested mouse controls, which I think is actually a great idea. In the future I'll revisit it and incorporate all the suggestions, so if you have anything else let me know!

Great visuals and music! I love the wrapping screen and the colours. Nice simple play mechanism.

That is a clever idea. I like the mechanics and overall game style (music + art) / I some moments the game becomes a little confusing. (The dialog that appears is funny)

Pros
- Overall Good style
- Nice approach to jam theme

Cons:
- Non intuitive controls
- lack of objective indicators.
- Confusing damage feedback

(Take a look at my game too, I believe you'll like it: goo.gl/8p2MVY)

 I liked the graphics style and concept, take when I hit the guy at the beginning and found the dialogue that took me into the main game. It's good to have moments where a player can discover like that.

 The controls however, stopped me from being able to enjoy the game to the fullest and for that reason I got bored.

 If you were to include a general objective on the top it would improve this game remarkably.

:fist: Well done with what you during the competition! Nice one...

really great use of primitives - the controls were not very good tho, it really was a drag - thanks for making it
