Bitcoin Dozer 3D

Desc

Just like the official post says, I had fun with it. I decided to mash up the digital nature of Cryptocurrencies with the classic physical nature of a Coin Dozer game. I had to think about theme a lot on this one! Just like the real Bitcoin though, there is so much that still needs to get done. More updates may come post Jam if I have time, and if I do add content then I will clearly mark the new version as post jam. Do not rate me on any audio though, as I did not have any time to get any in.

And remember, this is simulating a Bitcoin themed game. Those are not real Bitcoins, simulated or otherwise. It is like seeing this game in an arcade. So do not try to say that a falling Bitcoin should be worth like a million DOGE coins.

Please note, while the HTML 5 version is available, I highly recommend the native Mac or Windows versions. The HTML 5 one is convenient, but the performance may lack to the point beyond play-ability depending on your system.

Hint: Low on coins? Try clicking them on the menu screen!

TODO

Please go easy on me if you can, I only got about 12 to 15 total hours of dev time on this. That is the only reason I extended this to the Jam submission instead of submitting to the Compo. Below is a list of things I would of liked to see, had I had the time. - Achievements - Additional prizes other than giant coins (i.e. chests, gems, etc.) - Better graphics and performance - Bump table option - Coin Drop Type Toggle - Combos - Custom skins - Game-play Balance - Memes - Remove cheats - Saves - Simulated Crypto Market - Sounds

It's a funny idea, but it really just feels like a straight-forward coin dozer game rather than a mash-up of two genres. At the start of the game, it's pretty boring because there's just not much that you can do. But once the machine starts to pay out, it really just gives you tons of coins. And it's kinda funny to just keep dumping absurd amounts of coins from the sky until the game starts to slow down.

The coin physics seem a little weird. They act really squishy, and tend to bunch-up in odd ways. Part of this is probably just due to how Unity physics works. But it might also work better with a smaller board, thicker coins, and messing around with various physics settings.

I think some sound effects would really have improved the experience. Stuff like particle effects and flashing lights would have also been a nice touch. A casino game is really all about flashyness, and I think winning coins deserves a bit more fanfare than just some floating colored text.

I haven't played a coin dozer game in years! It was fun to play one again. Interesting concept with the cryptocurrency, although as @blushine mentioned, it does feel like a themed dozer game rather than a genre mashup. That said, it plays well, it's satisfying to see those coins fly off the edge (and make it rain haha), and the borrow from grandma is funny. I think it's a good submission given the amount of time we have during the jam.
I found a bug you may want to fix if you develop this further after the jam. The borrow from grandma button seems to set the value of coins to 20 rather than incrementing it by 20. I earned 40 coins and clicked it before it disappeared and it set me back down to 20. Would be interesting if the game had a hidden js mining script embedded in it, not that I'm advocating that :P

I guess the excitement of this game comes from the greedy feeling you get when you see the coins close to the edge. Adding Bitcoin to this equation gives it a humorous touch. It may have been better if you could have more control and/or interaction. Nevertheless Good Game.

I hadn't actually played a physics-based coin dozer game before (although they do seem to be an entire genre on mobile!). While the physics works fairly well, the layout of the board makes it less exciting - no big coin stacks 'just about to topple' (especially on the moving shelf, as you get on most real machines), and the Bitcoin theme was a bit of a wasted opportunity - you could have done something involving wildly fluctuating values (perhaps affecting coin size), or a choice of which currency to play?

*spamming all 275 coins* I'M RICH!! HAHAHA *Mom walks in* um...

Anyways, really addicting game! The bitcoin added humor to it. Imagine how much money you would have if this was real... All in all, The game was really fun.

It's a fun toy! I didn't realize at first that the coins on the start screen were clickable. When I went back to the game, I was a tiny bit surprised that coins on the table were not clickable. All in all, good work.

I like the concept! It was a little hard - I wasn't able to get any coins pushed over after multiple play throughs. Great start though, fun little LD game. :)
