Do Ki by 360

made by 360 for LD 40 (COMPO)

I have came back to training karate after 17 years of a break. Due the celebration and excitement I've dedicated this Jam to the honor of loving this discipline.

I've acquired a yellow belt back in year of 2000, called 8.KYU. Recently I've found out that I've also vocated for 6.KYU.

Am happy to be a part of this jam, seen plenty of great games out there. Some of which really got me cracked up. The names I don't remember, but I will be coming here back again, hopefully with a team next time.

ABOUT THE GAME :martialartsuniform:

A topdown karate fighter. The idea was to create more enemies with higher belts that match your skill level. I'll finish it some other time. However, the higher level you are in karate, more enemies can be spawned. The initial goal is to destroy all enemies. In this demo, you'll only be able to try it with no winning. Sorry :(

WASD to move, numpad_on to fight To do the kick, you have to do the combo P, P, K before your combo chi drops zero.

Too bad that the game is not finished :( (Or maybe I missed something ?)
Strange audio atmosphere but it works well ^^

Good job ! Keep coding :)

Loved it! It's not unusual for LD entries to go unfinished due to the timeline, so I wouldn't worry!
The mechanics are great, love the 1-2 punch. The controls work well (although use of numpad requires numlock to be on, could cause issues for some).

Love the beatboxing background music, you must have been well out of breath!
overall a great entry! Good job!

Interesting game, I didn't realize there was no way to win until I understood that the game is an infinite fighter game I guess.

I only got the 1 numpad key to work and the 2 didn't do anything. Using the LMB and RMB would be a better idea I think though because I had to get my desktop keyboard to play the game since I am playing it on my laptop.

The random level generation was cool and adds replay value, but more enemies and other mechanics such as pickups would make for a more "complete" game. It's a good thing that you published the game even though you didn't manage to finish it completely :D

Nice entry!

Innovative game idea, i like the semi open level design where you can wander around and duel your opponents. Combat was pretty satisfying, sound effects when punching really add to the experience. There seem to be lack of overall goal in this game, i mean as fun as it is wandering around there need to be some closure (i know that you explained in the intro that 'enemy spawnpoint' can't be destroyed). I also like pixel art and animations look very smooth. Pretty good game in general, well done.

I loved the beatboxing you did for the music! I haven't seen that before haha

Luckily I was at my desktop. I downloaded another game earlier with numpad controls on my laptop, and couldn't play because my laptop doesn't have a numpad. I think that's generally a bad control scheme.

Anyways, I liked this game. It was pretty chill, even though there wasn't much to do. The music made it feel very chill, but you opted for audio :\
I noticed that the animations were somewhat broken. The 2 key didn't do anything, but I could mash the 1 key and attack instantly even if there was no animation.

I like the idea of a top-down fighting game, so I definitely think you should keep working on it!

Looks like a great start and reminds me of some of the old retro games from back in the NES days.

The sound effect and bgm seem recorded by yourself? Although I think it does not match your game much but it is nice haha. And I did not know what the bar representing for. But no matter how it is a nice try!

Sad thing you opted out of audio, that beatbox was dope! I also used to karate ( I think it's about a decade ago or so that i stopped ), so you get bonus points for giving me a bit of nostalgia there! The game felt alright, the combat felt pretty snappy, at least in terms of the players moves. The enemies didn't actually have any attack noises so that made them feel less forceful. Overall, it was pretty cool! Oss!

@indie-gaming Ahahahha, that sure was a funny review. This demo is indeed too easy. Because, I haven't played through it enough. It has many buggies. Lots to work on. I really want to finish this project, I just don't know if I'm allowed to publish another version since the deadline, what do you think?? Anyhow, really impressive that you made 5 minutes off of that. It's a difficult job what you do. Great job, you're very sweet. Peace out sister!!!!

It was a cool game ! I find it fun to play, satisfaying, even if it was a little simple, but not frustrating. The capacity to fight an hord of ennemi and winning must be too good for my brain !

For an "wip" game, it is really cool ,good job !
