Sänka Viking - A Viking Warship Simulator by Erlatronics

[raw]
made by Erlatronics for LD 40 (JAM)

The more weight you have, the worse it is. Try to weigh the other ship down with your cannonballs so that they fall over and you can steal all their treasure. Programming and art: Me. Music: Jamie Nord - Royalty Free Music. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX4SQvYS3mX-pGoixOaCj9w Bild.png

I sunk your pirateship!!!
First of all, hats off to the 3D. It's impressive to attempt a 3D game in such a short time frame. This game is simple in a good way. I want to play more, and different levels of this.
To me, this is an example of using the theme in a way that makes the game good, as opposed to obnoxious. I think too many of the games with this theme default to fairly impossible games, yours does not, and I like that about it. The music is also perfectly appropriate. Good job.

Cool idea.

I think some kind of arrow indicator would be nice for the aiming. (not all the way)

Also, nothing happened when my ship got flipped over.

Smooth Gameplay. Nice Graphics. Had fun while Playing, but it get very monotone over time. For a One-Time run a very pleasent expirience.

I can agree with that. If I had more time I would love to have implemented a campain where you meet different ships and you upgrade your own to be more stable.

What a gem! At first I was skeptical ("why can't I just aim in one place and fire again and again") but the waves + rocking of the boat + sinking makes it a challenge the whole way through. I really appreciate that you created an AI that is challenging while being beatable. This game would also be great as a two player, single-keyboard, game (and easy to implement I'd imagine). Graphics and sound are great as well!

I just played again and noticed how the cannonballs knock shields off the side of the ship and also how you can make the ship tip over and sink. Amazing attention to detail.

Edit: My only criticism is the AI may be a bit easy(?). Make this a two-player game and/or add difficulty levels.

It was very fun to play! My biggest complaint is that once I started landing shots I barely had to adjust at all to keep hitting the same spot which made it pretty easy. But I really love the concept and I think it fits the theme really well!

Oh I missed this cannon war game from windows 95 so much - thank you for implementing this to wake some good memories <3

Really fun game! Liked the idea of changing ship's position after being hit, it really adds to the gameplay! Graphics are simple, but cute.

After battle the game just stays on one screen. You really should either load the menu or suggest to restart the game. Feedback of reloaded canon would be appreciated, something like audio cue. Also any indication of where you're shooting other than small model of canon would be nice.

Yeah, fun! Love pirate-ish stuff. However the fun is over, when you sink the ship. At some point, you understand, you got the treasure, but some firearms shooting and ship crew shouting "Hooraay!" would highly reward the winner. Nice mechanics and jolly shooting anyway.

Fun game! I like how the water mechanic would throw off your shots when your ship started to bob around. I actually had a long battle and the ships got far away from each other and it was hard to finish. Cool take on a classic tank battle game. Good job!

Simple mechanic and fun. Remind me of the old cannon fight game on Windows95. Despite being a rather short game, I can totally see the effort and attention to detail spent making it. Even as it is right now, it could easily fit into a RPG as mini game or part of a side quest.

I have some inspiration for the game, maybe if I had the same concept I'd give it some kind of theme:

For example you're a merchant ship delivering goods from one port to another. When you're attacked by pirate the fight could be exactly like the game right now.

When a pirate ship is low they will try to escape. You can choose whether to try finishing them off (gaining their goods while making your ship heavier) or just let them go. You get gold upon successful delivery and that way the game could be episodic where each next trip is longer than the last.

Well that's just my imagination and maybe doesn't fit your intend, just leaving it here as reference

Neat little game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWC1pkAxfVs
