Stoked by pitpony

Stoked is a game about keeping a Flame Spirit happy.
Mine ore, send it down the chute, and throw it into the furnace. Be careful though, only coal will keep the fire Stoked.
See how many coins you can collect.
Oh, and watch out for the Slimes!

@tacohej - thanks also. Very good point about picking up stone with tools other than the hand. I should find a way to block drag events for those tools.
You're both being kind on the aesthetics. I really wanted to revisit them but didn't have time. Probably something to do post-competition :)
I did find I was spending a lot of time waiting for the flame spirit to burn down before feeding it more coal. And the top half of the screen got quite congested with rock. An interesting mechanic might be to make it harder to differentiate between the coal and the grey rock. I really enjoyed it though, esp the graphics. Well done!
@Asado999, @eXr - thanks both :)
@Aterlamia - Yes, I started some music but it didn't sound right. The I ran out of time. Something for post-compo.
I think it should be a little harder, there's not that much challenge.
@luis-garcia - thanks, yes I think it does need more of a challenge.
@frostdragonliz = :)
I like blobs. Blobs are my jam. Great blobs. Ended up with LOTS of rocks sitting on the downstairs level..... so I guess more slime blobs would have been nice.
Help overlay was very helpful... of course... because it's a help overlay...
I really can't fault this entry, it is what it is and it's exactly what it aims to be! :thumbsup: :fire:
@gwinnell - Well done and thanks for the feedback :) I like blobs too...
For some reason the hand was offset with my actual mouse cursor so it was a bit confusing at first, great work!
Keep moving forward.
Could use some music. And add some particles or something when you make an action such as hitting an enemy so you get some response to your input.
Hide the default mouse cursor, it's very distracting.
Gameplay however, it just felt like I was doing boring work "click click click" for no real reason other than to keep the fire alive, but I didn't feel connected to the fire, money as a reward seemed unrelated to everything else. Maybe have the fire tell you a story or something?
@kthulhu1947 - thank you :)
@impbox - Great feedback thanks. Very helpful. This comment is also going straight on the Trello board :)
@wevel - thanks. Definitely needs more challenge later in the game - I'll work on that for my post-jam version.
The graphics are good (you really nailed the cartoon aesthetic), and the core gameplay loop is solid. The audio could use some work though; I had to turn my volume down quite a bit, and I say that as someone who also didn't do well in the audio department - I have to turn down the volume in my own game, as well.
Overall, not bad, definitely an interesting use of the theme!
@shaolin-dave - thanks. Funny we had similar ideas :)
@cliffracerx - thanks for playing. Late game repetitiveness is becoming a theme. Thanks for the comments on the audio too - it needs a total overhaul as I had very little time on it.
@kalibrated - thanks and glad you discovered some tricks. Auto-showing the help is a good idea.
Preatty easily got a handle of a cycle that would let me feed the flames and not the slimes (and hammering the slimes to get the stolen coal back was pretty intuitive).
Got up to 9 coins and flame growing out of the furnace... and then got bored a bit. But a pretty good game.
@jackyjjc - thanks for the detailed feedback and nice comments, much appreciated. It definitely needs more longevity.
@oab - thanks :)
@jupiter-hadley - thanks for playing my game and recording it :) Its cool watching someone else play.
@sarah - ha, yeh maybe that needs a tweak :)
@boxfort - thanks for playing and for the kind words about the artstyle. Upgrades and locations are definitely on my Trello board for post-jam.
Your art style fits the sort of point-and-click feel of your game very well. The art is super clean and polished. From a gameplay perspective, it is obviously simple, which works. Thought I feel the small rocks could play a bigger role in the game - like punish the player for putting them into the flame, maybe? I was very easily able to keep the play field clean by just throwing all the rocks into the flame with no reason not to. Overall, well done!
I personally don't get a lot out of clicker games, I feel like there's either nothing to do, or everything is happening at once and is a bit stressful. I think that applies here to some degree, but I'm aware that's partly just my own preferences. The split screen idea is cool, and filling up the hopper and pressing the lever was satisfying
