made by Ryan Temple for LD 40 (COMPO)

I just finished my first ludum dare entry. I am proud to present Sorted, a time management game about sorting crates. Features an online leaderboard!!! The game is over when you lose 50 crates. Screen Shot 2017-12-03 at 7.13.59 PM.png

Very fun concept. Could see myself getting addicted to this if it was a mobile app. Also, is it possible to lose in this? I lost 15 boxes at one point and it was kind of unclear to me as to when the game would be over.

Good job! I play it for a while and it's fun. I'll come back to proper rating it.

Fun idea, and things definitely do get crazy, but it takes a while for things to ramp up. Still a fun game, though.

50 lost crates is a really high number to end the game.. I thing the game could go over 2-3 minutes which out doing anything.

Kept me clicking for a while. It takes a lot of time to actually get anywhere challenging though, was catching crates midair till like 2 minutes. Good Job!

Great Job, very fun idea :)
I don't know what everyone else is talking about it being too easy. I was struggling from the beginning but maybe it's time for bed for me ;-)

The game feels fun and simple. Great job on your first entry!

It could be nice, but you need a way to win or a better way to lose. It hurts in the hand =/

Thanks for your comment on my game. First, no less!

I played your game! I clicked crates! It took a while for the difficulty to really ramp up. Maybe if you miss like 3 crates (not 50) you lose. That would give me a bit more of a sense of urgency.

Excellent first entry!

This is a very similar mechanic and gameplay concept (sorting boxes on a conveyer) that I originally had for my LD40 entry, but I spent way too long on the visuals/intro camera sequence and ended up only with a click-to-scan mechanic. I am happy with the look, though. It is also my first Ludum Dare entry.

Its not a bad concept but it gets repetitive really quick. You need to find another way to make it more challenging, other than it simply getting quicker.
Or at least add some sort of flashy effects. Exploding boxes or maybe a box that sticks to the others so that you can pick up multiple boxes of one color. Or a pickup or something where everything slows down.
The way it is now, losing feels like its bout to happen at about the same point for everybody.

Hope I could give some constructive feedback. The concept is fun and definetly a good Idea for a first entry. Keep it up :)

Simple and fun game! At first I thought it was a bit slow, even if I knew it would get harder as time went by. And when that time came I simply couldn't manage all those boxes. The best feeling I had when playing this was when I was trying to not lose my first box. Good job on your compo entry! :)

Congrats on your first Ludum Dare game! Unfortunately, for me it was not that much fun to play (partly because I already played some sorting games this LD). Only after 3 minutes the first crate dropped. After 4:41:53 minutes of frantically clicking and dragging the mouse, my hand starts to hurt. ;) Maybe it would be more fun on a mobile with touch controls. The 50 crates seemed to be a too high treshold; I think if the threshold would be lower, a player would be more inclined to try to beat his or her score. It is nice that you added a tutorial (although I started by actually clicking the red crate a few times before I saw the 'continue' button on the bottom ;) )

I like that you added a leader board - second place currently! ;)

You should add some other mechanics to make sure it stays interesting, like boxes that do unusual stuff when you click on them or even other mechanisms to contend with.

More mechanics for sure! Please expand.

Well, our games could be cousins! The game was fun, however infinite mode is a tad tiring. Maybe another mode with a set goal of crates to store could be added. Also, 50 crates is a too much high threshold, makes the game too easy/long. A label with the stored crates was in need, in addition to the lost crates. I think also on mobile the game could be easier, as it is easier do select and drag. Not that it was hard here, but the interaction on mobile is with touch.

The rotation animations where cool, and the art simple but ok, something you can improve later. Some sounds and background music would be cool, like the machine functioning, crates dropping and stored. The crates' physics were also good.

But this was your first Ludum Dare and it was a nice entry! Practice makes perfection and your first result was not bad. Don't be unmotivated and keep improving the game to have a great memory from your first LD jam :) Congrats!

Good idea with nice potencial. Gameplay is too simple now - more logic or action is missing. Controls - when you're transporting box into hole second click is unnecessary, box could physically react with others on the conveyor belt.

Very simple concept and graphics, but it works. And it works well. I like this kind of game, and I didn't feel once the game is in my way, all that was bad was my fault. So good execution. I like that you included tutorial and leader board (got to 2nd place!).

I think it would be a good idea to show a fail state in the game. I wasn't sure how long do I have to keep going once a few crates flew by. Only saw it in the description after.

nice game. Graphic is simple and maybe you can add some animations. But it's funny and it will train your aim :)

I like the idea. It really fits the theme. However, I found it annoying that I had to click twice, once to pick up a block and once to let go. Once you put the box in the hole, it would be nice if it could just disappear. It would also be cool if you could pick up multiple boxes at once, and dump them in the same place. I encourage you to add more to this game!

Pretty cool concept! I like how it can get quickly overwhelming if you go too slow. Well done for getting an online leaderboard working in the 48 hours, that's impressive! It would have been nice if there was something to keep the game interesting for longer; for example, perhaps the chutes could move or change colour?

Nice game! I think others covered all the bases here, having the ability to stack crates and move together, drag and dropping instead of clicking and the 50 crates lose threshold. I liked it, has potential!

Simple but well made game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvj17CkuZ1U
