Flood by Megalink
DESCRIPTION
"Flood" is a zelda-inspired survival game where you must search for weapons and food, while also be under constant threat of an ongoing flood. To prevent being engulfed by this flood, you must go to an elevated location, such as a hill, and wait for it to pass.
As time goes on, enemies encounters grow harder and harder, and you can starve more easily. How long can you survive for?

The flood just appearing caught me off guard the first time. I was expecting a similar effect as the shrinking bubble in PUBG or Fortnite BR. The next game I had some trouble figuring out what was supposed to be an elevated position but I learned that the hard way as well. :D
After that I just hung around the elevated place with my trusty bow. Excellent sound and feel to it btw! Smol sneks stood no chance. Then during the flood some invisible thing started eating at me until I died. Not sure what that was all about. Personal best at around 4 minutes.
Good job!
Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
I found an exploitable bug - if you keep alternating between two screens, your food and health will stay at max but the time will keep counting. If you get up on the big elevated piece that spans over two screens, you can use this for infinite time.
The arrow and bow/rocks didn't feel too powerful, perhaps I just suck at using them. It felt wrong that I could not shoot from the high ground to the low ground.
Chaotic movement of the foxes was a bit annoying :D.
@boltkey the original concept was actually to have more then one flood level, but we decided to stick to just one as we thought it would result in too much waiting, and therefore destroy the flow of the game. Also, good catch with the exploit! I'll create a post-jam version which fixes some of these bugs. @poffle I'm really glad it made you feel that way, I'm super proud of how the visuals turned out. It's a style that we've never really tried before, glad about how it all came along! :)
It can be frustrating after few plays, bu the challenge is here. Although it is a little bit hard I must say but it is a very good little game. Well done :)
The idea itself is great but the gameplay can be expanded upon.
I was surprised when the flood took up the whole ground instantaneously.
Once I moved on a hill, there wasn't much to do besides waiting for the next enemy to spawn.
And there was no punishment for just staying there at first. Then the health decreased until I died without any explanation. Didn't really get that part :)
Edit: I get it now, you starve... so maybe the this should be indicated a bit clearer.
Other than that, great entry!

This was an interesting game that for me had great atmosphere, with the birds and the walking footsteps. The aesthetics were also great and the animations were smooth and nice.
The flood mechanics were a nice touch for the theme, but I think this game can be greatly expanded upon (maybe a building system and more enemies). A very nice game overall.
I actually really liked this... I was skeptical of the graphics at first, but I gotta say, whatever that first weapon is really worked for me, I enjoyed watching it. Plus killing the enemies was really satisfying.
I felt a little punished when moving onto a new screen and being instantly damaged multiple times by an enemy, but I don't know that I have any real major critiques. I do think this has the potential to be drawn out a little bit further, but I think it might be a challenge for you to keep it fresh. Maybe a crafting system, some overall goal... but I can still see it staying kind of repetitive, maybe it's just best in a jam? You know what, if you were to focus on a new build and take out the flooding, I think you've got the skills to make a full length game that would be really fun to play.
Now the one thing that I felt missing was an end (or like a goal, maybe a time limit for example?). I felt frustrated that It just ended with a survival time
However, after finding higher ground, I felt safe there and didn't see any point to go lower. You should do something to encourage player movement (like spawning more enemies if the player stays in the same area for too long).
Initially, I thought there was just one small area. During my second try, I started moving more and realized that there's more. You could look into moving the camera with the character or something else to indicate that.
Overall, good job!
Edit: It would be such a nice touch if after the flood goes off, you have some food as the animals in that tile die out xD.
Do give our game a try and give us some feedback.Cheers!
