Pawn Shop Hero by tomdeal

[raw]
made by tomdeal for LD34 (COMPO)
This game was created by Thomas Diehl for LUDUM DARE 34, a 48hour game jam. The theme was "Two Button Controls/Growing".
I had 6 hours time that weekend to create something...

---What is this game?----
Pawn Shop Hero is a business simulation game. You own a pawn shop, and customers want to sell you their items and buy the ones you have in store.
Every day, you get some customers. And every day, the landlord collects the rent, which increases each day.
How long can you survive before you go bancrupt? The score at the end is the total amount of money earned by you.

--- Theme ---
The two Button Controls theme should be obvious :-) You either say yes or no. It also "features" the growing theme by growing your bank account ;-)

-- How to play - Buy Items --
The customers offers you an item for a price. You estimate the value of the item with your expertise. If you want to buy the item, click the yes button. If you don't want to buy the item, click the no button. In this case, the customer will give you a better offer, if he has not lost his patience yet (the blue bar on the top). If a customers loses his patience with you, he will go.

-- How to play - Sell Items --
The customer will give you an offer for the item he wants to have. You estimate the value of the item with your experise. If you want to sell this item for the price the customer offered, click the yes button. If you don't want to sell the item, click the no button. The customer will give you a better offer if he still has patience, and enough money left.

-- Gain Expertise --
Each item has groups. With each item you buy, you'll get better at estimate the price of one of the groups (from -- to +++) of this item. After you have bought some items, your expertise in this group will grow.

-- Game Post Mortem --

Never have other stuff scheduled at the LD weekend! This drained my enthusiasm, knowing I did not had enough time on sunday to finish a game. Originally, I wanted to create a side scroller simple shooter (like metal slug) and polish the hell out of it. I ended up coding a two button webgame business simulator :-) The balance could be
better, but the game gets increasingly difficult, so thats nice.
I had to cut some stuff, most on the graphics side (I also recycled some sprites I had drawn for the shooter game, before aborting that idea Saturday evening).
But after all, I finished a game, that is playable and some fun for at least a few minutes. It won't be the best game I made for LD yet, but after having no game at all 6 hours ago, I think this is a pretty good finish :-)

For this game, I used:
- Webstorm
- MeteorJS
- Photoshop

Thanks for playing!

Well, the idea is not very interesting (imho), but it goes OK as a filler. Actually, this is game of number management, and players generally don't tend to like it a lot. You could use more dynamic gameplay and increase player's influence on the game.

Cute idea! I enjoyed it :) however I kept getting items worth minus figures which would screw around with the values. Overall a fun little game, shame there wasn't any audio.
