Constellation Exploration by matfernandestt

[raw]
made by matfernandestt for LD 39 (COMPO)

I've decided to participate Ludum Dare's Compo after it started. This game was made in around of 20 hours. Was a tough time. The game has 5 levels where you need to get the stars form the constellations. Screenshot_4.png

Simple and great. "Going down" was a good, one tip: Compiling for android you will get along with it.

Great entry! Gets a little too difficult after level 2, mind you :)

Good job!

Interesting game, nice job building it in only 20 hours! If you're looking to improve the game in the future I would definitely recommend reducing the difficulty. It is incredibly difficult and unforgiving! Other than that, I liked it and had fun :)

I'd recommend allowing WASD controls as well, just my 2c. Not bad. Simple but good.

I love the simplicity here. Charming sound FX and music, the visuals could use some work, but the way they are now makes the game all the more charming. Main problem is the diffiulty curve, level one is neat and gets you into the games mechanics, but level two feels like a level 4 or 5.

I found Lvl 2 MUCH harder than the others, the topmost bit was devilishly hard to find, especially since you can't see it when the level starts.
Great submission!, the dash feels a bit jittery maybe, but the game is very fun,

Exploring the final frontier is not easy at all.

### What I liked
- The sound effects provided good feedback and kept me company.
- The drag. It made it feel like I was actually traveling in the vastness of space.

### What could use some improvement
- The game could use some balancing in favour of the player. The second level was difficult for me.
- I would have liked a bit more colour but I feel that wouldn't have gone with the mood you intended to set.

Thanks for the game.

Audio was really good and suited your game well. Game is also very polished, but I couldn't complete any level different than the first one :/ Your game fits theme perfectly.

It was a fun little game, but the difficulty really spikes at level 2. The audio was fine, the graphics are functional, making this game pretty polished. I've learnt that I'm _definitely a loser_ . Good job!

It was a good game! It was hard to play after the second level. The audio glitched out after about 5 minutes. Overall great game!

Nice game! I have tried and tried and tried... can't get past level 2... But it seems like a fun (rage inducing), well polished game. Good job to you Mr or Mrs or apache helicopter or whatever :D

The art is really basic but also very fun somehow, the style works really well! I beat the game and it was pretty enjoyable although a bit simple

The dash felt a bit clunky and music bugged out into one long beep on web player but beside that game was cool. Graphic have nice atmosphere.

Fun game, indeed an accomplishment with so little time to work with.

The dash seemed a bit too expensive for the effect it has. Nice work!

Nice game. Very similar concept to mine, except a much better implementation I think. The dash felt a little weird but was good once I got used to it. Zoom out at start works well. Finished all five levels. Great job.

This game was fun. I wish it had lasted longer. I really liked the implementation of the power idea, and the visual indicator of it was very strong. My instincts told me that the dash mechanic was going to lead to a bunch of self-induced trainwrecks, but it turned out to be beautifully intuitive.

I destroyed the universe, with a score of 6720... Really great for an ending haha.
The camera should be smooth when you dash, because it's rough at the moment. And there was one instance that the bar below didn't update (it only stayed at 0%). So I looked on the size of myself just in case I would die before getting the last star. I liked the game, still fun as it is.

I like the simple design, but I was a little bummed when the music stopped playing. It was a really sweet track.

Like the music, and the concept! Although is difficult to go over level 2! Also, music stops after a while. Never the less, is a prommissing game. Like so much the simplicity of the concept.

The basics worked pretty well, but it didn't really feel like a full game. I could be it being polished into a pretty fun toy though. Side note: you might not want to insult the player! :p

The comment when you lose and the fact that the game doesn't record your progress made it a little frustrating. It's not an easy game, so it requires more than one try, but the frustration disencourages people from actually completing the game.

The art has a nice style, but I missed music that went with it. I didn't like the dash sound effect very much.

The idea of the player walking trough constelations is very good, I liked it a lot.

A nice game with basic mechanics that work well. The control of the player (a star?) feels nice. I especially like the dash being a locked distance with a cooldown (although I would've liked to have seen the cooldown). The game has potential which is always cool to see. The music is alright. It feels a little too erratic and ends up being a little grating. The graphics, while simple, give a nice contrast. The idea is good and fits the theme well. Good job for such short dev time!

Really cool game! I liked the level design, the increase difficulty is smooth. I just think the game should not penalize so much the player resetting all levels again, since the core is find the best way to collect all orbs. But, again, the game is good. Nice entry!

I think that what you have is pretty solid for only 20 hours of work! Nice job :)

Some of the stars in the constellations are a little too spread apart I think, kind of hard to beat a level if I don't necessarily know where the stars all are right away. But once I did it was fun to plan out which order I should capture them so that I wouldn't die before I could get them all!

Not bad, a bit confusing though. It took me a few minutes to understand what was going on, but for 20 hours of work it's pretty good.

An interesting game with simple but fun mechanics and graphics. Pretty good for a 20-hours-only Compo. I had a bug that in a certain point in the game the sound just stopped working tho.

Good Job.

Really difficult but an interesting take on the theme. The music cut out after my first game over so that might be something to look into.

An interesting bug I found - at one point I went straight from level 1 to level 3. Which was nice for me because I never managed to beat level two the right way. I like the graphical style and the music was nice, but it did cut out for me.

Traveling salesman problem - the game. I wonder if there is some potential here?

Not a big fan of the gameover sentence and the fact that we always restart at the 1st level.
But it's a nice and simple game, well done

Game was pretty hard until I found out I could dash forever. I became a god once I found out I could do that. Also the music stopped at some point and started spitting out static noise instead. That kind of sucked but otherwise the game was pretty solid

Good game! Definitely an example of "easy to learn, hard to master." :D It took me a little while to understand how to move though, since I was used to using WASD and it only let me use the arrow keys. I also would have liked to have respawned on the level that I lost instead of restarting on the first level. But all in all, this was a fun game, so good job! :)

Interesting concept. I really like how you get smaller when you're close to running out of power. I felt that the audio was pretty repetitive and obtrusive, especially when the music ended. The graphics were minimal and cohesive, but the UI is pretty ugly.

Overall a pretty neat game. I agree with many of the other reviewers here that it was a bit challenging in the later levels since you don't get a chance to study the star layout before the round starts. I don't mind the actual difficulty of navigating around to reach the stars, but maybe if you had it hold at the extent of the constellation for a few seconds at the beginning to give the player a chance to figure out where to go. After level 4, it really ended up being pure luck that I found enough stars to keep going. And losing at that point meant going back through the first four levels again. Maybe restart at each level after you've completed the previous one would be good too.

Simple yet effective graphics, easy to learn yet hard to master controls, audio included, this is a great entry. Thanks for the game.

The concept was more efficient than i thought at first sight, which is always a good thing. I find it a bit annoying to have to start from level 1 each time.

And if I were to suggest something for the energy it would be to consume it, not based on time but on the distance you travel. I do agree that it would change a bit the core of the game but right now, the time pressure urges you to move fast when you circle is so slow.

And I forgot to say that the music was great ! Too bad it stopped after a while.

Great job :)

Quite simple, but I like how the mechanics work together such that you want to space out your pickups to get as much time as possible. I would highly recommend procedurally generating levels for something like this as it just ends before you get a chance to explore any deeper mechanics, but I like what is there.

Hey, I'm not a loser! :D

With all this music and visual style the game shifted me into relaxing state. Good enough to spend some time and consume stars, but not too long. Thanks for the game!
