made by Naca for LD 40 (JAM)

cabeceira.png

A game about woman hair.

CONTROL: mouse + left click

On the link below you can find both jam and post-jam versions.

All art, sound and coding by Carlos Pérez and Nuria Pico. Beach ambient sound by dkustic (freesound, CC - Attribution)

Engine: Phaser. Graphics: Photoshop + Illustrator. Sound: Audacity.

Thanks for playing :]

Release notes (spoiler alert)

Hair removal is not the goal of the game. Although it seems to be at the beginning, the actual goal is to remove from the screen all the people that shout at the girl because of her hair. What you do with the girl's hair doesn't count for the outcome of the game. With this game, we intend to rise concern about the widespread misconceptions related to women's hair, and turn upside down the perception of hair as something like "the more you have, the worse it is".

Post-jam version changelog: - Fix typo on the ending text - Fix sound bug - Tweak a couple of gameplay parameters

I'll be honest - I was really iffy on the concept when I first started playing, but I'm so glad I stuck it out!

Really, really well done here.

Also, an extra kudos for the fantastic work on the graphics!

I like the message of the game. Cool to see games with a message!

The sounds weren't working for me, but it was an interesting concept and great take on the theme. I was disappointed I couldn't pluck the chest hairs off the men.

I really like where you took the concept! I just wish I could have plucked the hair on the other people.

Great game, did find one thing. At the end when it says "The more assholes you have, the worst it is" worst is improper grammar and should be worse. Overall an interesting idea

@rargrave @team-infernus As you may have noticed, the hair you see on some men is not a coincidence. We put it deliberately to represent the hipocrisy of some people with this topic. We thought that the player should not pluck their hair, but rather "pluck" their judjements. Anyway, your point of view is also interesting, and we may reconsider it for the future.

@jack-maxwell yeah, we know. It will be fixed soon.

Interesting take. The game looked and played beautifully. Sound was great. Loved that the difficulty lever was only changing the color. Well done!

Good take on the theme. It's nice to see that in a LD Game.

The art is really cool, the sound they make is too. Maybe it's a bit too slow to grow for someone who's not convinced by your message at the beggining to convince them...

The end message is not even needed I guess, it's clearly understandable haha !

Sending love toward your direction !! =)

Fantastic game!
It's super cool for a Ludum Dare game to have a such great protest message!
The arts are really great and the concept is fun!

Great job :D

I liked the humorous take on the theme, and the drawings were very well done! That woman looked more and more ugly as the hair piled on. Extra points for the creative use of the theme and good art, even though I disagree with the message.

At first I click on the man just because I want to try to remove the hair from the man's chest.
However, the man just make a disappointed sound and leave but the woman smile, then I get the point!
Well done! Games that try to positive message is always great!

(spoiler alert)

This is a great example of games as art. It was very interesting feeling my own emotions change over the course of a game: from "really? A game where removing body hair is the goal? Tasteless, stupid and offensive" to "hahaha stupid assholes you can't judge me ya jerks" to finally "what a wholesome positive message." Additionally, sound and graphics are both very pleasing. Creates a very nice atmosphere.

Good work.

Like anyone else here i like the message. But i also wanna be constructive. So i found it nice that you had more than one voice acting for the women and men yelling but yet not enough to not make it feel repetetive too fast. Assumin you record 3 versions you could still pitch each of those then in 3 slightly different pitches and you have 9 variations. Not much work but a great effect.

Anyways, i really liked it :-)

Wow. You definitely did something interesting here, I found the idea very good. I think it could be more difficult to play, but I still think it's awesome. Congratulations!

Yeah you guys got me too, I clicked on it thinking that it was made by a bunch of 12 year old boys and left with a good and wholesome message! Really well made and great visuals.

Haha, I really like where you take this game to. A small, and simple game with a nice message at the end! Nice aesthetic, and relaxing mood.

Great job by the way!

i liked it...kind of had an Italian beach feel with the voices and style. I didn't get the comments on the tweezers for awhile, but then I started getting it. Thanks alot for the effort. This was fun to play and well done!

Surprsingly I went for the enemies first and only realized I could remove the hair after a few rounds. Maybe that's just the gamer in me....

As peachtreeoath I went for the enemies first as well. Cool concept, especially that you can resolve the situation in two different ways.

The graphics were really nice.

This is really well done, the graphics and sound fit in perfectly and the fact that the game tries to convey an idea makes it stand among others.

Buen trabajo!

Nice work and an interesting take on the theme. It was good that you could complete it both ways for different endings. It's rare to see games tackle social issues like this and this one was really well presented.

Good reversal! Nice visual style as well. If it had some suave music and sound effects, would have been perfect. Well done.

@lexi @gwolf86 Actually the game has only one ending (the text on a white background). If you've seen also the text on a black background, that's just a help tip in order to move forward in the game. Maybe we should make more clear the difference between them with some additional feedback for the player...

Anyway, glad you liked it and thanks! :)

Ah, fair enough. I just assumed it was the "bad" ending. You could treat it that way and have it as a win/lose kind of game.

@naca your game seems really.. Complete. You have the message and want to send it. And I like that your game has some.. background :)
I was suprised after the plot twist, when I realised, that I can remove assholes instead of hair it is also a proposal :)
Also the graphic is cute and very attractive.
Good job, the game is awesome!

@regisrquoi We don't have a twitter account :/ You can contact me (Carlos) on [my gamejolt](https://gamejolt.com/@Naca), but honestly, I'm not a very active user (just another couple of LD entries). Anyway, I really love Ludum Dare, so it's very likely that I keep taking part in the following jams (hope at least once a year). You can also hit the "Follow" button in my LD user page so we become jamming friends hahaha :right_facing_fist::left_facing_fist:

I kind of wished I didn't read the first few words below the spoilers (by accident, I swear!) before playing this game. The startup felt a bit slow, since it's just a whole lot of waiting until the tweezers appear, and the lose condition takes forever, but the message was really nice. I definitely would appreciate nicer people surrounding my area.

A small and short experience, but I think it delivers on its promise. Keep it up!
