Dodobrawl

A silly card game meets 2D fighter, where the characters don't make a whole lot of sense!

fighterSelect.png

The premise is simple: reduce your opponent's HP or deck to 0 before they do the same to you! Currently, all decks are randomized.

To play cards, cycle through text, and interact with buttons, simply click with your mouse! Controls, game rules, and more are included in the game itself.

* Next Steps * - Fix known bugs with sound effects and battle logic. - Add battle stages with unique backgrounds - Have pre-created decks for each character based on their affinity (except for Dodocan, who will always be random) - Implement a draft mode!

Thanks for checking out my submission! Credits for all sources included in the game.

First of all the art is a very strange but likeable mix of very weird and cute. The pacing of the card game is fast enough to make me feel a bit frantic but not so much that it's all frustrated button mashing. I liked it a lot!

I am Rock-Sensei. I find no flaw.

That was certainly interesting. I like the art style and character design, though I kinda wish there had been some animation of the fighting. For some reason, the music played through only my left headphone even though I could hear the sound effects through both. I think the high volume of defensive cards works against the gameplay - in one of my matches, I ended up with a hand containing four separate copies of the 'guard' card and as far as I can remember my opponent played Vengeful Lunge and nothing else. Draft or preconstructed decks would add more depth, but I think the game would also be improved by more complicated card effects that take the game away from the rock-paper-scissors that it currently is. Good work!

Thanks for the feedback so far, everyone! @piscythe I really appreciate those suggestions. I was excited to get to animations for each card but sadly failed to do so. Given more time, I would love to implement that, as well as pre-constructed decks -- or at the very least, card ratios so that you wouldn't end up in the situation that you did (i.e., too many defensive options). I would also like to add in more fighters and make that selection more meaningful, rather than just aesthetic.

Your knack for creating strange characters makes your games very charming. All the characters are great, but the Rock-Sensei steals the show in this one (and kicked my ass). Great job! Looking forward to your future gaming projects!

Great game, would like to have a bit more time to read the cards but once getting familiar with them I had a lot of fun. I agree with @piscythe, the amount of defense cards works against gameplay. Super cute characters btw!

This was actually pretty fun, it took a turn based sort of game and sped it up to keep pace with the more active nature of fighters; typically you see the inverse where the addition of cards slows everything down. Dodocan ftw.

The game itself is a good idea, but the execution was lacking. There was a problem such that the music only came from left headphone.

To save everyone's sanity, I managed to invest some time into investigating the left headphone bug. The sound's been fixed! Thanks to all those who rated the game so far while dealing with that bug!

Nice little game. There didn't seem to be too much strategy but I liked the card variety.
I didn't really think the timer was necessary but since you are only playing one card anyway it wasn't too bad.
Nice art style!

Simple but checks all the boxes! Cute characters, interesting choices to make. I could've done with a bit more UI polish (took awhile to figure out you could hover over the cards to find out what they did).
