Radioactive Rumble by weeping-rupee
The more arms you grow, the harder it is to punch someone. Kinda counter intuitive considering how many heavyweight champions throughout the history of the sport have been octopuses.
"You just gotcha jaw octo-ROCKED!" Boom.
Controls:
Left mouse button = Dodge Left
Right mouse button = Dodge Right
Keyboard = Punch
Mouse = Aim Punches!

So you have 3 meters
Health, Stamina (self explanatory) and Radioactivity
The more you miss punches/get your arms tied up the more your radioactivity grows and you sprout more and more arms.

I was so bad at dodging... and then it felt really disheartening when I was hammering space to get back up and he was standing over me rapid-punching the empty air my head was about to move into, like YO REF THAT'S CHEATING! Then I looked around and realized... shit, there is no ref in this fight.
Also wasn't that good at punching. (Who talked me into this fight anyway?!) The mouse aiming is a cool twist on the original, but I never felt locked in. I think that's somewhat as designed: clearly the arms are intended to make the controls feel awkward.... a fine line to walk design-wise but I think you pulled it off here by having the right humor about it.
Doc told me to use shift to activate star power but I never got it working. Sure would have loved to whirlwind all those arms at his ugly face after all those beatings. https://imgur.com/a/qAxSX
Great entry, lots of personality! Really enjoyed it.
Just sayin'. :)
Nice job!!!
Yeah I REALLY wanted multiple opponents and actual rounds (although I think the combo Cuphead style see-how-close-you-got game over screen is a good work around for not having real rounds)
I normally have a team of 4 artists/coders who do these with me but this time it was just me and my artist Jeff so it was a real crunch just to get this done.
Oh shoot I DID actually know that, I just mixed the things up.
I assumed it wouldnt let me submit to compo bc its only 48 hours, no?
Anyway I just switched it over to jam, my bad. Thanks for the heads up I never woulda realized that.

Not my peak performance, but not that far below typical. First two fights on hard, rest on easy. That second easy fight, I woulda shoulda coulda but my hand landed on home row instead of WASD and it took me a few moments to figure out why I wasn't punching.
In retrospective viewing, perhaps I ought to fight at a more measured pace.
First thing I'm noticing is people must have vastly different quality keyboards as its crazy the difference in speed some people can press to get back up.
And yeah the strategy is to wait and take your opening and fight more "measured" as you said.
Actually you do a better job than most of this. The one other guy I saw play was just SLAMMIN the keyboard always runnin outta stamina.
good solid feedback-- and I mostly agree.
There is a randomness to a lot of his behaviors that makes some fights more interesting than others when really there should be more of a pseudo randomness to it where he switches his behaviors dynamically based on what you're doing. If i make a full game out of it this is the route I'd take but for the purposes of an LD I had to use true randomness in most cases.
- Great concept
- Great Mechanic
- Great setting/characters
- Very difficult to grasp
- Sometimes you just can't punch because your gloves are all overlapping
- I could not figure out how to properly dodge, no matter how hard I tried (I'm pretty bad at punchout anyway)
Nice work!, I had funnnn.
Good job! :)
I've got a couple of bugs: 1. Audio is disabled sometimes. 2. Enemy goes bellow the game screen in some cases.
I feel a lack of ability to move the character (at least horizontally), but I love multiple consequent punches that give blue stars -- that's really satisfying.
Also, why the main character is not an octopus? :octopus:
